05/05/2010 8:32:10 | The second stage of the Nissan Titan Desert 2010 Roberto Heras, and the Czech Ondrej Fojtik were again fighting for leading the overall standings, with Laurant Jalabert gaining a solid 3rd.
At a very quick 94 km, without excessive slopes but with some very technical areas, the 324 survivors who remain in classification has M'Cissi game early in the morning.

Again the rate of head has been spectacular since the early stages and has formed a large front group of about 30 participants who threw hard and forced the peloton to stretch. This strong pace in the first few miles has marked the development stage since the arrival to the area faster the strongest have tightened further. On stony ground but quickly big head group has been segmented into several smaller ones with increasing the hardness of the route.

When you reach a small mountain pass before crossing towards the hitherto Alnif overall leader and winner of yesterday's stage, Czech Martin Horak has suffered a series of jabs that made you fall in the group. Nevertheless it has not given up, has repaired his rear wheel and has continued. A few miles back the same wheel to fail and he used his last repair kit in the hope of solving the problem. However, before arriving at CP3 of the race, and slightly less than 20 kilometers from the finish has turned to spin losing any options to fight for victory or to retain the overall lead.

That looks like a tough old race. I see Heras has won stage 3 and taken the lead.

A few famous names in the race by the looks of it - Heras, Jalabert, Mauri, Olano, Astarloa. And Contador is just outside the top 100.

(OK, it's not that Contador, it's his brother).

Yes, it is interesting to see them running a really hard race. And yes, go to the clinic and post your doping boredom there, mate. Cheers.

They apparently still love to compete and ride regardless of their past transgressions. Good for Heras, one of my favs. I only wish he had been able to make a return to the pro peloton but he's been blackballed from what I understand.

Thanks for this thread and all the others that you've posted about events that aren't easily accessed nor publicized. I'm sure we all appreciate your efforts.:)

to me, it really does not look "awesome", it looks dreadful.

for anyone who's ever spent time on sand, it is not something you seek out to race on in an type of quantity. They are not even riding down the slopes. Every shot here is of them pushing or carrying a bike... granted, they are pedaling in the majority but it still does not look enjoyable, even in the most humbling of ways, in the least.

No way. Mountain bike racing should be about tough courses just as spring classics should be about cold, windy, and cobbled routes.

HOLY SH*ITE, that is an awesome, epic race! Amazing. How can it be boring when you are in the Zone required to race through the desert? I love Jaja, although I was quite disappointed in his lackluster marathon times.

On that note, I'm a part-time runner, & I check out letsrun.com from time to time, where the vast majority have NO idea what real cycling fitness is all about, and, despite their somewhat older ages when they ran, I wished Jaja or LA (leaving out personal feelings re: LA) could have really given their marathons a real training foundation so the running community could have seen excellent performances and drawn the correct conclusions about the athletes. Although didn't Bo Hamburger or Udo Bolts or someone do a sold Ironman?
