i get the feeling he is provided with a list of those and is just reading off it.

I wouldn't be surprised. I've often thought the same. Could be an official TdF press guide or something.

I've also thought that they kept a database of riders and results. They'll mention some obscure French rider in the break, inform viewers that he finished 4th in the U23 cyclocross national championships in 1997, then go back to misidentifying the rest of the breakaway.

I also find the tone of his voice fantastic to listen to and could do so for all the race very happily.;)

Can't agree with this. No problem with Matt's knowledge base and research but I find his phrasing a bit awkward. He's always pushing through his sentences too quickly which I find annoying. Still a bit raw and doesn't yet have the polish of others. Matt desperately needs a wingman, preferably an ex-rider providing 'special comments'.

Anyhow, more importantly if I had two bullets, the first gets reserved for the F*ck Tard Rupie Guiness and the 2nd for Tomalaris. They really get up my skin.

i agree completely, his voice is so awkward and rushed. he's really gotta get someone with him. i couldn't listen to him for too long, he might not make mistakes but he has no style at all, its just words spewing forth.

and for the expert analysis i have to mute that! Rupert, Tomo and who ever else they can find all saying abolutley nothing for ten minutes. its embarrassing to watch. Tomo would discuss if the grass was greener this year or in 2007 with rupert if he brought it up.

That maybe one of he reasons why SBS is showing some of the Vuelta live. Maybe they are trying to move to lock up the rights for the Vuelta ie. they feel threatened by OneHD and now Eurosport as well in Australia. I remember reading somewhere that the reason SBS doesn't show the Giro Live is because La Gazetta Della Sport (sp??) charges some insane fee for the rights to broadcast the giro and sbs is govt funded (IIRC?) so they don't really have that sort of money.

If One HD want to show more cycling they should start will some smaller races that SBS is not gonna care about them taking..(Eneco Tour, Vattenfall Cyclassics, San Sebastian, Paris-Tours, Giro di Lombardia, maybe a couple of early classics too...like Scheldeprijs, Kuurne, Gent-Wevelgem an possibly something like Tirreno-Adriatico) as they would go nicely with the small collection of races they already have (Worlds, Tour de Romandie, Tour de Suisse, + those new races in Canada IIRC).

Just my 2cents

I agree. With the canada races being shown that means i will be able to watch cadel!:)

OneHD is showing the World Champs (as they did last year I think) this year and they also showed the Tour de Suisse I'm pretty sure.

Hopefully in the next couple of years we have all 3 Grand Tours doing the free to air rounds!
