"I am aware my name has been mentioned during talks that USADA has had with former team mates of mine in their investigation regarding doping activities at the US Postal Service team," White said in a statement.

"I am sad to say that I was part of a team where doping formed part of the team's strategy, and I too was involved in that strategy.

"My involvement is something I am not proud of and I sincerely apologise to my fans, media, family and friends who trusted me and also to other athletes in my era that consciously chose not to dope.

again the horsecrap about the new clean era, ffs.

on the other hand, i think it's an excellent gesture of White to stand down.
that's really the only integer decision he could make, something that lots of others in the game could and should take as an example.
The game would have been a lot less dirty if others would have taken responsibility for their deeds and step down.
So chapeau to White for giving the correct example.

but cut the crap on the new clean superstars already.

More toxic fallout from 'Affaire Armstrong'.

"NATIONAL cycling selector Matt White has stood down from his position as sports director of the Australian-owned Orica-GreenEDGE team after confessing to being part of Lance Armstrong's doping ring.

White, 38, issued a statement this evening after earlier today being accused of sharing banned blood booster EPO and testosterone with disgraced Tour de France winner Floyd Landis.

Hopefully this is the first of many to come clean beyond those who testified. On a personal PR perspective, there's never been a better time, Lance will take all the headlines and you get to blame it on being part of the culture of the times

Not in Australia. He will get more coverage in Australia than Armstrong.

That's Rider 9 having found his name on the forums and deciding to not wait for it to hit agencies :)

It's good that his job is taken, and he's formally allowed to step down. However, his ethics or ethical logic are in question. We now know what White knew about Del Moral. Why would you bring an ailing cyclist to a doc who's not seen a patient in a while? This could be seen as a crime rather than a doping-related act of carelessness. So many sports docs out there, and he uses the dirtiest one he knows to exist.
The new age of clean cycling has a lot of BS going against it.

Folks, if your hands are dirty from your earlier time in cycling, just get yourself a real job!

i'd still like to know what he was thinking when he sent Lowe to Del Moral.

@Mad Elephant Man: I believe OGRE didn't fire White. White resigned.

Maybe but the stories were he was facing being fired. OGRE were asking him to respond to the allegations. It is not like he just put up his hand and resigned.

He was outed by name in the Landis appendicies, so being outed as 'Rider-9' in forums was no additional information, other than forumites reading the appendicies and putting it into his affidavit details.

Patrick Jonker was on USPS as well, doubt he will confess though.

I doubt that we will see many voluntary confessions from the guilty who have not been named. I wonder if this will make those who have been named a little more forthcoming.

It was all over the media in Australia that he had been named in the USADA report.
