McQuaid and his many conflicts of interest / relationship with Armstrong

This is picking up on somethings mentioned in other threads but perhaps deserves to be separated out from the other discussions.

As well as the Armstrong 'donation(s)' to the UCI there are several other examples of a 'close' relationship between McQuaid, his family and Armstrong which calls into question McQuaid's personal probity, his honesty and conflicts of interest.

While there is absolutely no suggestion that anything improper has ever taken place, the UCI must surely acknowledge that a conflict of interest exists. Let's not forget that Pat's brother runs the Tour of Ireland, where the star attraction was the Uniballer and his band of merrymen.

Schenk has called for more transparency at the UCI, with the conflicts of interest around the McQuaid family and their relationship to Armstrong, it is clear to see what she means.

Some enterprising journalist should ask Armstrong to explain the extent of his business dealing with Verbruggen.

Good post. I think Verbruggen is the key though - McQuaid looks like a johnny-come-lately compared to the Master of Darkness.

The place is http://www.letoiny.com and was bought in 2007 by CSE Reality Partners. This was a investment group put together by Armstrong, Lance Sallis and Patrick Jeffers, Bart knaggs, and Bill Stapleton.....and others.

It will be hard to find out who the other investors are but it would be interesting if some journalists/Federal agent would at least ask.

Nicolas Roche has now relinquished his right to deflect questions of doping. He did so when he made the decision to join the Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank team led by Alberto Contador and managed by Bjarne Riis.

Roche’s reluctance to come off the fence with regards to McQuaid’s position must be footnoted with the fact that his agent is Andrew McQuaid, Pat’s son.

Family business
Another agency is the Italian sounding Azzurri Sports Management but in fact this is an Irish company run by Andrew McQuaid. If the name sounds familiar, then it should. Andrew is the son of Pat McQuaid. Now clearly a father can’t control his son’s job but it does through up a potential conflict of interest, for example a borderline UCI case to sanction a rider. Would a UCI commissaire think twice if they knew their decision could mean reduced income for Andrew McQuaid’s business?

The 2 pages of this thread started in 2010 make very interesting reading.

Bakers Bay in the Bahamas. Armstrong & CSE own lot 49, Joseph Aragona, investor in Mellow Johnnys owns lot 48, they arent the only two lots the "lot" of them own.

I can't imagine how much dealings must of existed but has yet been found out. I bet this web goes deep. But as we know, Armstrong was at least smart enough to do many of his dealings in cash. Remember Hamiltons book and all the money that was being transported around in the private planes

Knowing some of the principals in the various entities that LA is reported to be involved with, I would say his stakes in some are rather minor. It's likely his name was used to attract other investors/partners.
