Wow, didn't realise it used to start in Bourke St Mall and go over the Westgate! That would be hard work at the start surely?!

just to clarify "On the UCI calendar". Also the second oldest behind Leige starting in 1895.

Will make it a different race, just as the extra feed station changed it last year. Won't make it any easier though

My great grandfather won it in 1910. I think he pretty much started a family tradition of cycling. I am now the 4th generation of 'competitive' (i use the term loosely) cyclists in the family.

The classic distance was always 260km. When they changed the route it became a longer race. It was often run in the opposite direction up until the 1950's. The discrepancy in times comes from the wind. A bad head wind has added hours onto the time in some years.
