Yes, but after that he stopped posting, so it wasn't urgent to get that account banned. Then the next came along...

Banning decision by mods/mod is done on urgent or not urgent basis?

Winding him up? Martin was putting on a vortex that Dr Maserati would have been proud of and you know it.

Except, to my knowledge, Dr. M NEVER thought he was vortexing. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Vortex didn't happen in a vacuumtm. Like most things, it took two to Tango.

Of all the really dumb things that have occurred on this board, banning Maserati was by far and away the dumbest.

Fact is he went way overboard with the "blood on the hands"-thing and directly linking people's behavior with Pantani's death or possible future deaths of riders. That is just way off and deserving of a ban imho. Besides that contribution did seriously derail the thread and it served no real purpose. So as far as I am concerned a ban was in order. Whether or not it should be one month that is open to debate, but I guess he does have some prior offenses to his name.

It was overboard & in the wrong thread.

He spiraled into some sort of hyper-focused, vortexed tunnel of circular arguments that even he lost control of.

Martin is way better than that and highly intelligent. He doesn't need to do it to get his point across.

I will miss him. I don't much mind his pomp.

RichietheBest is back in "froooome". Why don't you just ban the entire IP?

And why are there not more mods? Guys like The Hitch and The Hog could be good candidates.

He is still there. See "jem1130".

But he was a great concern troll, yeah.

great ban.

Do you think it's OK to tell a poster to "go **** yourself"? You get a ban for a month for off topic posts and zilch happens when you insult someone like that. That's a dangerous precedent. Are we saying this is acceptable now?

The thread went a bit off topic and it was guilty on both sides of the argument, myself included who was discussing it with others before MartinV came into it. I don't think it's fair then to come down on one poster singling him out as the fault of it all when it's not the case.

There was no mod active in the thread either and I think a simple warning for us all was sufficient enough, especially as I started a thread to take the discussion away to a more appropriate one as I felt it was one well worth discussing.

I know a lot of people in The Clinic don't agree with MartinV but I think he's one of the most fair minded and informative posters on the forum across a variety of topics. I don't want to see posters like him driven away when they have a considerable amount to offer the forum. That's the way it's going and he has contemplated in the past deleting his account as a result of all this. I hope not but I fear this could be the final straw.

Regarding yourself the sceptic, I don't have the slightest respect for your opinion, it's full of agenda with a clear baiting aspect to it and you're only interested in having an echo chamber with the same opinions to yourself hopping off the walls around you. There's posters in The Clinic who I have disagreements with, that put their points forward in a constructive and well argued manner and I respect and take that on board as a result. Totally opposite to you.

Show me where I did any trolling as bad as telling people to imagine Contador laying dead by the side of the road, and it being the fans fault. How can you even be surprised that saying something like that would **** people off?

But hey, lets bring back Martin. Maybe we can discuss riders dying for another 1000 posts.

Show me a single informative post relevant to the topic of doping from MV and I will stop posting for 24 hours or some other reward you can think up.

ETA: if I can find 10 posts where he insults someone or puts them down for every informative post you find, would you be surprised?

Yes, he is one of the most informative posters, as in one of the most knowledgeable in the current goings on and history of the sport. He has the best interests of the sport in his make up and I think he's a consistent poster in wanting the bad apples kicked out from it. There is multiple posts where he has done this.

He discusses the facts at hand, doesn't make up evidence or twist things and certainly doesn't come up with stupid conspiracy theories which are pushed by some to try and further their agenda on a topic. The latter is in clear reference to yourself as we just seen in the Henao thread. Daniel Benson brought in new rules to stop all that nonsense a while back and to try and bring more constructive discussion to the forum but the rules are clearly being breached in this area on many occasions. Nothing has been done to rectify it and it continues incessantly.

Getting into heated discussion is a direct result of pointing out the hypocrisy on posters on here and I do that myself from time to time. I don't think he has anything to apologise for doing so and it's tough **** if some don't like it.

Right. So "show me a single informative post" is met with personal, subjective opinion. Insulting people is seen as "pointing out hypocrisy".

No wonder you think he's informative.

forum is for discussion from where is there onus to be informative?

Mark L

You clearly can't follow the discussion, Mark, so let me help you.

Gooner loves Sky and says MartinVickers (who also loves Sky) is the most informative poster here. I agree that banning informative posters is sad, but then I also disagree that MV is informative at all, but rather a bully who insults people and pretends not to love Sky, whilst defending them constantly, and supporting them directly on twitter.

I ask to see an informative post to support gooner's notion.

None are supplied.

You're welcome.

So, are you claiming that the elaborate "theory" you have posted over Henao's accident is informative, rather than subjective?
I'm pretty sure many of MV's posts include information that can be traced via links.
I'm pretty sure that isn't the case with your explanation for Henao's withdrawal from the T d Suisse.

I'm disagreeing that MV is informative. Or that the informative content of his posts trumps the bullying and insults.

But not surprised you want to twist that around as if I am claiming to be informative.

Pretty sure I stated things I had read, and a theory - not stated as fact, certainly not an "explanation". Just a theory, and incredulity at certain of the events that occurred - like leaving a bike by the side of the road. The frame was broken but the Di2 components themselves are worth a quid. The worst I did was hope for a photo of him recovering in hospital. How that becomes an "explanation" is beyond me.

What you actually mean is that you have the same points of view with regard to Froome, Sky and Contador and that is therefore okay if MV is offensive, rude, aggressive and generally a pain in the bntt, stifling discussions by going way off-topic and in general being a pr!ck.

Not the first time either. Back when Mc got some abuse from some contador fans on Twitter he went into the clinic on his high horse and started directly linking people and blaming them for the death threats Mc received.

There was a story a while ago, I can't remember where, that included an interview with Ben Swift where he said they are required to take their power meter cranks with them everywhere as they don't have enough sets for their training and race bikes.

I have to admit, leaving the bike there, if people were with him, is strange.

So the vultures who turned on and wound up Martin are now attempting to do the same with Gooner, now there is a suprise

On another topic when will the mods suspend Dear Wiggo for his offensive posting in the Henao thread, I guess never because generally they agree with him:eek:
