I got banned from my exchange with eBandit, you think I was arguing with myself!

TheSpudVickers was very active in those posts so wouldn't surprise me. But I still don't buy the story from Mark L. Just a smokescreen.

Actually come to think of it. After I was banned, TheSpud started reminding the mods it was my supposed "last chance" saying it should be a perma ban.

The mods also contacted me at that time and told me I was under review due to complaints. It was clear to see I was being attacked by both eBandit and Spud in a tandem attempt to ban me.

So maybe eBandit is telling the truth...

Well its about 5 bans since his last "last warning" ban ...

I continue to be impressed with your knowledge of forum history. You must have been paying really close attention for some time, then all of a sudden decided to start posting every day. Your attention to detail from your silent era is remarkable.

I've been in touch with Mark and I believe him to be genuine. His account was hacked. By whom I don't know but I have my suspicions.

SpudVickers has disappeared of recent all of sudden. I'll leave it to the mods to work out the sordid mess but think we should give bandit the benefit on this one. He is the victim of a hack.

Well, I can provide a bit of a "G" sample, perhaps.

I did, in fact, initiate a PM exchange with "ebandit" on the 23rd of November. I had noticed a change in "Mark's" posting style, and he seemed to be flying a bit closer to the flame than usual. But that wasn't why I PM'd him. It was simply in response to a couple of posts he had made in the forum.

The exchange was quite pleasant, rational, articulate and intelligent. Also, the style of communication was noticeably different from ebandit's usual approach. It was as if I was communicating with a different person.

At the time, it made me think that perhaps Mark L was simply providing the public forum with his schtick (his writing style is well known by now), while behind-the-scenes he was revealing a more straightforward, less animated version of himself. But it definitely seemed different to me, and I shared these personal observations with another forum member at the time.

So in defense of Mark L, I can at least testify to the fact that, at the very least, two different sides of "ebandit" were on display. The public version which was similar to ebandit of the past (while still being somewhat different), and the private version which was completely different.

It will be up to others to draw their own conclusions from all that, as I am unable to offer any definitive explanation either way.

I will say this though: If I had to guess, I know which banned member I would attribute it to, and it wouldn't be from the short list above, as suggested by others. There is one member (currently banned, I believe) who many people have a problem with but with whom I have always enjoyed my exchanges. Based on the style of writing, I have a hunch. But I won't be naming names publicly.

As to how any of this happened, well, I, too, eagerly await an explanation.

ebandit became a different poster. All of sudden he was using capitals letters, ending sentences with a single punctuation mark, sparing with the best posters without asking for "evidence".

I guess he shouldn't have used the password "ilovethedawg".

I have not been around for many years but I clearly remember the first time he responded to a post of mine..

In the mod thread I was imposing a ban upon myself for being drunk and disorderly (I accused Hitch of baiting me for no good reaon).

Before a mod could take action I underwent the treatment of ebandits illuminating blade of cryptic sarcasm...
In (at least) some of the alleged period of the imposter ebandit was way way more straightforward in his usual posting about other posters tradition...

All this is pure speculation, but I can make sense of the notion that is was NOT the real ebandit...

What I don't undertand though is how a member frequently using the forum for years could have an imposter using his acount for months without Mark noticing...
But then again, there could be multiple sensible explanations to this...

What I find highly unlikely is that any poster who whishes to remain here would make up such a story... Especially not when on face value there is so many holes in it.. Which is also why I gave, and still give him the benefit of doubt..

I was going to stay out of this but I'm posting this so that you can put your theory / conspiracy to bed and so that you cant get away with implying I have hacked the account.

I too have exchanged a few PMs with 'Mark' in the past, the second last one just before the month long ban when he was flinging the nasty comparisons around. His posting that day made me take a rather large intake of breath, in fact was writing him a PM just as he was banned (it wouldn't let me send it). The last PM was yesterday when I saw he was back - he replied and stated it was the 'real' Mark L.

I went quiet because I wanted a rest from posting on here. I last posted in the Brits Don't Dope thread where actually we were exchanging some nicer banter. Why did I want a rest? Because (what I described as) a jokey / playful comment made by me on Wiggins situation being similar to Alan Wells resulted in about 10 tons of it being poured on me. Rather than continue / start a flame war, I took a step back and just left it. Then of course it was Xmas.

As for your comment about me trying to get you permabanned the facts are that the 'last chance saloon' warning given to you was only a few weeks after I joined. I just happened to mention it once a couple of months later. I never, repeat never, reported or lobbied for you to be perma'd. I may have reported you for accusing me of being martin vickers - i forget now as i only reported a couple of people late one night but that was it.

To add and aid, I feel obligued to share a PM sent to me after ebandit was banned that may help to clear part of the situation, or in identifying the person behind this mess. Whichever way the the content of this PM turns the way of things, it will forever remain a plot twist to me.

First, all I can say is that if laurel1969 is a sockpuppet of ebandit (which I failed and may have to apologize to report upon receiving this PM) ebandit brought this upon himself. Or, second, laurel, without doubt, is the person we're looking for. A plot twist eitherway, for as you know I have supported laurel in the past.

I hope I helped clear things up, and leave it to the mods now. I apologize for not letting you know about this message before, probably as I should, but now I felt that the it's content was nuclear to the understanding of this situation, and reckoned it was wise to make it public.

I really shouldn't be here to defend anyone, because this whole thing contains more internet drama then I had originally bargained for.

But it also needs to be mentioned that it's quite possible that just one person is behind all of this—multiple accounts, multiple versions of "Mark L," etc.
