He's a pretty good TT. I believe he is more in the 60-65 KG range. Attacking rider who should do well in Hilly ODR.

Googling around a bit, I found some sources claiming he is 55kg. Or at least that he was 55kg last year. Even if he gained some weight this year, it's pretty promising that he can TT that well on the flat and that he survived on the cobbles of Tryptique des Monts et Châteaux at such a weight. I heard some hyping of Dunbar before, but he hadn't shown too much on a higher level yet. He seems to be amassing some impressive results recently though. Looking forward to see him in some races with serious climbing this year. :)

Yeah, he's definitely a tiny little climber, but he's an inexplicably good TTist. He won the Irish u23 TT and finished top 10 in the world u23 TT which was frankly bizarre for a 19 year old midget.

Philipsen-Dunbar-Powless is a real podium of talents.

If so that's seriously good. I thought he'd be around the 60-65 KG mark due to his good TT ability.

He seems to be good on any type of terrain .

And Philipsen is 2nd, impressive.

Really impressive for a first year junior. He'll be a monster on the cobbles in the coming decade.

He is a first year U23. ;) RVV U23 isn't a real indicator for me, when I look at the results.

He's only 19. The kid's got serious talent. And as Samamba said this parcours is much harder than last year's soft one
The Muur. The Oude Kwaremont & Paterberg all inlcuded.

That Dunbar is really one to look out for. In u23 events people tend to be more allround, but nevertheless, doing well in the major cobbled races for espoirs despite his size, is surely indicative of the great engine he must possess.

Definetely has a good chance but not every rider who looks exceptionally good as a junior becomes a winner in his professional career.

I remember a certain Oskar Svendsen being hyped since he finished 5th in Tour de l'Avenir at the age of 19 (it's very rare to finish this high that young) and recorded the highest VO2 max ever. He hasn't even become a pro eventually.

For every spot at the very top there are at least 4-5 young riders being hyped. They can't all reach it.

Re: Re:

After becoming an excellent TTist in the second half of last season, tiny little climbing prospect Dunbar is now among the best cobbled espoirs in the first half of this season. My prediction for the second half of this season is that he will suddenly discover that he's also a big bunch sprinter.

It sounds like a great win. He attacked with 31km to go and only Foss and Brunel made it across. Then he attacked the other 2 on the Eikenberg and got clear but Brunel got back to his wheel. Then he ditched him and rode home solo, 49 seconds clear of second.

Agree with you that Junior form is not exactly an indication for a good pro career. But Phillipsen being Belgian is a little different than a typically young Dane or Norwegian or Eastern European.

Imo only way he get's derailed is through injuries or the hype getting to him. He was Young Flandrian of the year in 2016.

Brunel's only 19 too. There is some serious talent among those born in 1998.

Impressive ride by Dunbar.
At the same time 19 year old Marco Negrente (Team Colpack) got his first win as an U23 rider, he won the Trofeo Edil C by beating Lucas Hamilton in a 2 men sprint.
Aliaksandr Riabushenko won the reduced bunch sprint for 3rd place behind them, German Nicolas Tivani Perez finished 4th.

Narvaez is the new leader in Circuit des Ardennes with only one stage remaining. Vamos!

And without bad luck he'll hold on this afternoon. Great days for Axeon with Eddie yesterday and Narvaez yesterday and today. Pretty impressive for a 20 year old Ecuadorian in a Belgian race between some (ex-)pros.

It's in France, very close to the Belgian border though.

Narvaez is an amazing talent.

The queen stage was in Belgium, but indeed the other stages are in France.

They have a ridiculous concentration of talents at that team. Costa, Dunbar, Owen, Powless, Narvaez etc. Guys who would be the obvious star elsewhere. For the last two years at least they have been head and shoulders above any other development team. In theory they could put a team into LBL U23 containing about half of all the riders in the field who would get previews stars.

Why are they so strong, by the way? Do they have much more money than other development teams? Or do they have a much better scouting operation?

Exciting days for the pros, but also for the U23 riders with the Ronde van Vlaanderen last week and Liège-Bastogne-Liège this weekend. One of the races I look forward too each year.

Big favorites for tomorrow are obviously the Axeon boys who are starting with an incredibly strong team. Not only last years winner Logan Owen will be there, but also last weeks winner Eddie Dunbar, in form Narvaez and last but not least the American duo Costa - Powless. They'll need to fight off other strong teams like BMC with Sivakov, Muller, Hirschi & Turgis, Lotto Soudal with their young Belgian climbing duo Lambrecht - Vanhoucke and Mitchelton-Scott with Hamilton, Storer & Hindley. Guys like Paret-Peintre, Gall, Knox, etc. can also be in the mix.
