Lambrecht wins U 23 LBL. Impressive considering he had a late start to the season .

Only 3 official race days (+ 2 crits) before today.

Yep.

What do you feel regarding the youngsters born in 1997 & 1998.

I think there is some serious talent there.

1997 has incredible climbing talents (not only the usual Bernal & Costa, but also guys like Storer, Lambrecht, Higuita, Vanhoucke, Sivakov (although he's more alround)) and it looks like 1998 has incredible classic talents like Turgis, Hirschi, Philipsen, ...

Spoken of Philipsen, I think he just came second in the 3th nation cup of the year, the ZLM Tour, just behind Lawless. He's soooo good. I'm a bit salty that he chose BMC over Lotto though :D

My take too, 97 more GC talent, 98 more Classics talent. Hirschi seems an all rounder too. Interestingly he sees himself as a climber.
Phillipsen looks crazily good.

Hirschi does have the body type of a climber, he is indeed pretty allround but a lot of the big talents can do well on all kind of terrains in the youth categories, I think Hirschi will turn out to be a climber though!

The little talk about groups of riders being born in various years made me remember something a bit scary:
In just a few years we'll very likely be talking about riders being born in 2000. In fact, how old are the youngest riders in the Junior World Championships? 17? Coz if so, then riders born in year 2000 might be riding - and get noticed - at the World Championships this year.

(And I still partly think that riders born in 1990 are U23 riders. They're just two years younger than I am... I feel old now...)

The youngest at the Worlds will be 16 (if they didnt have their birthday yet by the time the Worlds start). Riders from 2000 are now 1st year juniors (u19)

Alexandr Riabushenko just won the Giro del Belvedere ahead of Lucas Hamilton and Matteo Fabbro. Fabbro and Hamilton attacked on the Montaner climb, then Riabushenko was able to carth up to them on the short, Via delle Longhe climb (ok, more of a short ramp).
The top 10:
1 RIABUSHENKO Aleksandr Blr - Soligo Amaru' Sirio Palazzago

2 HAMILTON Lucas Aus - Mitchelton Scott

3 FABBRO Matteo Friuli Cycling Team a 4"

4 SAVINI Daniel Maltinti Lampadari BCC a 17"

5 COSTA Adrien Usa - Axeon Hagens Berman

6 POWLESS Neilson Usa - Axeon Hagens Berman a 23"

7 ZILIO Giacomo Zalf Euromobil Désirée Fior a 30"

8 STORER Michael Aus - Mitchelton Scott

9 ROMANO Francesco Soligo Amaru' Sirio Palazzago

10 POGACAR Tadej Slo - ROG Ljubljana

it looks like Hamilton was the strongest on the longer climb, but Fabbro was only a bit behind him at the top of the climb.

Must be frustrating for Lucas to be in decisive move every time but not win cause he doesn't have a sprint. Today again second (this time behind Powless).

I dont think he is very slow though, Riabushenko is pretty fast, not sure about Powless. But Hamilton will get his wins this season. I have always seen him as more of a climber so that he is doing what he is doing atm bodes really well for what is to come.

Riabushenko isn't just a pretty fast one day racer, last year he dominated Bassano-Monte Grappa, pretty much a climbers classic, and won 58 seconds ahead of Matteo Fabbro, really impressive.
The sheer amount of great Aussie climbing prospects that we've seen in the last few years is pretty impressive.

Recently Zahiri Abderrahim got a few decent results, 16th in the Giro del Belvedere, ahead of strong riders like Patrick Müller and Logan Owen, and 27th in the Giro dell'Appennino, when he arrived with the 10 men group that was fighting for the 20th place.
He's not your typical Moroccan rider, he's a short and rather stocky climber (159cm tall and 57kg heavy).
Last year he rode for the Centre Mondial du Cyclisme, so he already rode many races on French soil and in Switzerland.
Speaking of Centre Mondial du Cyclisme riders, has anyone signed Jose Luis Rodriguez who rode for them last year and managed to finish 9th on gc in the Giro Ciclistico Valle d'Aosta?

Nicola Conci wins the GP Industria e Commercio. Jai Hindley second. Eddie Dunbar third. Matteo Sobrero fourth. It seems from various reports that the race was basically determined by Dunbar going ballistic every time the 1 km climb on the finishing circuit came around and these were the guys he couldn't get rid of.

It also appears from the podium photos that Conci is about two foot taller than Hindley and Dunbar.

(Edited to add: how did I miss that this result had already been posted?)

Today Australia won the TTT and Riabushenko the second semitappa. Hindley leads overall.

So... are the Australians finaly gonna win something instead of being second all the time :D
I like that they're doing more european races this year, they'll ride Aosta again this year too (and are definitely the favorite there).

João Almeida from Portugal wins the Strade Bianche stage. He is riding for the italian team Unieuro Trevigiani and is in his first espoir year. Interesting guy, it seems.

Probably a good sign for his future that he's on a foreign team already as it can be a bit tricky to get out of Portugal.

And Riabushenko is 2nd !.

He really is super consistent.
Riabushenko is scary strong, one of the strongest riders riding for an Italian team.
Almeida recently won a stage in the Tour of Mersin and finished 8th on gc and from what I've heard the guy is scary strong, last year he won every single stage(!) of the Volta a Portugal de juniores. His teammate Zahiri Abderrahim also finished in the top 10 once again.
Unieuro lost a lot of riders and had to make a deal with the Bulgarian Federation to make ends meet, but they've got a few really interesting young riders from all around the world.
