How many times are people going to be surprised and outraged to discover that Sky are at the Tour to win the yellow jersey with their designated team leader?
They do not give a rats anus about any of the water carrier's chances of winning a stage as Froome discovered himself not so long ago. The domestiques are there to give the leader an armchair ride to Paris and they are very well paid to do so. That's the deal Landa signed up for and that's what those paying him the Murdoch cash expect him to do. If Landa doesn't like that deal anymore, he will sign elsewhere (although if the Movistar rumours are correct I wouldn't expect him to get much more freedom there).
If any Sky dom actually did go rogue, I would fully expect Sky to pull him from the race.

If Mikel Landa was called Geraint Thomas or Peter Kennaugh or any of the other pets and sported a Union Jack in his maillot, there would't be any problem for not nursing Froome for 100 m.
Portal freaked out because they knew that Landa is a real danger to Froome if he goes rogue.

Landa is three minutes down with a TT still to come and is not a threat to win the Tour outside of the fantasies of a few on this forum. What Sky would be worried about if they thought he was actually going to go rogue - which they don't because he won't - would be team division and chaos handing the race to one of the actual threats. Like the guy who is currently in yellow and 3 mins ahead of Landa.
As for the Brits thing, it's certainly an advantage to be a Brit on Sky, just as it's an advantage to be from the right country on any of the quasi national teams. But those advantages do not extend to being allowed to abandon your role helping their team leader at the Tour to pursue your own ambitions. As we saw previously with Froome himself.
I don't like Sky's way of doing things. I'd love it if Landa went full Gadret. It would be hilarious. But please let's not confuse forlorn hopes for race analysis.

Will sky do a 2007 rabobank and get landa out of the race? (I know very different situations but I can't remember other situation when a team banned a rider on a gt)

Nah. As much as Landa sorta going rogue, sky isn't going to take Landa out. It's just silly. They didn't take froome out of the team when Wiggins clearly upset at him. Why? because without Froome, Wiggins got no one strong enough to drag him along the mountain. Landa is Froome to Wiggins. Landa has always fancy for either getting stage win or something. So I'm not surprised he did what he did. Whatever his reason is. To me, he is not fitting with Sky, because he thinks that he should have a free role to chase stage win or KOM. But riding TDF with Froome means "no one" has any other agenda. I'll be very surprised if he stays with Sky again. He is itching to be a protected team leader and targets whatever GT he feels like it. In Sky, everything goes with pecking order. So if he want to win a stage, contesting GT or winning KOM, Sky isn't a place for him.

It is true that in logical rigor, he would have to wait and help froome but ... in 300m @ 15% what could he do? Load the dawg on shoulders and bring him to the finish line? Not to mention that he could take away the bonuses

Meh, it all depends on Froome and if he cracks today for team cohesion to be mantained.

Interestingly though, Landa's Giro-Tour double seems in much better shape than Quintana's. After multiple breakaways during the Giro, and never seeming the strongest climber among the favourites, he is now one month later climbing with the best, despite having no intentions of racing this race, and looking better than everyone else.
Landa has almost never disobeyed team orders. In the Giro 2015, he stuck with Aru for a long time, and only really dropped him on Madonna Di Campiglio, in the last 200m. On the Mortirolo he was allowed by Aru and Astana to go up and drop him, and take the stage. Then on the Sestriere stage he obeyed, in tears, the seemingly stupid instructions to drop and wait for Aru, so Aru could take 2nd in the race. The only time when he went against it was in the 2015 Vuelta, when he stayed up the road instead of dropping back and pacing Aru on the Andorra stage, but that was pretty minor.KyoGrey said:

Exactly, wouldn't have mattered the slightest in this gradients. And if he has gone earlier, he would maybe even had taken some time bonuses.
