Not cowards. Just weaker than their competitors.
I don't think anybody would differ on this.

If your inference is correct(?), from my view:

Basso rode as hard as he could and played his "cards" to his strength, Scarponi and JRod clearly had more to burn (if only a little bit) than Basso.

My podium guess:

Hesjedal/ De Gendt/ Basso

Why are people writing Scarponi off? Past results tell us that he will be strong tomorrow.

Purito lost just 2:14 to David Millar last year, the ITT is 5.5km longer this year but still dont see De Gendt passing Rodriguez in the GC.

Referring to that Pais Vasco TT is utterly pointless, it was a very hilly TT with loads of corners, this one couldn't be much more different.

I don't remember seeing Rodriguez doing many pulls in the TTT either.

I don't rule out Purito hanging on, but more because he is in pink and it is the last day, than any previous he's shown in TTs.

The reminder was just to point out he's doing TTs much better than usual. I agree being the last rider in Rosa will help big time, additionally Ryder's efforts to catch De Gendt may be too much with so little time to recover.

Well I wont put any money on Purito when it comes to time trial, even he beats Cancellara somehow

Seeing as that's the last long ITT he rode, I'd say it was very relevant. Much more so than the Pais Vasco TT. Or is Sammy Sanchez a better ITTer than Martin now?

Rodriguez was only that good in the Pais Vasco ITT because he wanted the GC so badly that he took insane risks in the descent.

VDB for example sucked very very bad in that ITT because he did not want to risk crashing. I don't know about Hesjedal, but I think it was the same story with him.

The poll should've been closed earlier.

I requested it: I don't know whether admins can do any different, but non-admins can only give multiples of 24 hours as duration of poll.

But very few, if any, posted their opinions in the last minutes of the race, or in the v short time between the finish and me posting results.

Neither of them were superior to those that beat them. Basso did his tempo thing but he just didn't have the legs to make his rivals suffer. Scarponi attacked on multiple occasions but he too just wasn't as strong as Hesjedal and Purito. I think many here confuse what is entertaining for the viewer and what is practical and better serves the riders in the pursuit of their objectives.
