The finale of this race is always interesting, unpredictable, and exciting! And you can sleep in to catch it on the west coast. :D

I felt Stuyven eased off a bit in front when he saw it was SKA coming across. He maybe would have got home alone anyway. Definitely, if Trentin and Alaphilippe hadn't done lead outs for nobody on their teams

Ewan must be gutted, probably never get another chance like that at Milan San Remo.
He already got 2nd when Nibali won it.
Does anyone get the Ineos tactics? If they wanted to favour Pidcock they needed to ride a higher pace on the Cipressa and more irregular on the Poggio.

Ineos seemed to be riding for Kwia but he didn't have the legs when it counted. I thought Matthews was a chance with a km to go.

Really interesting finale, at least in how it shook out.

Ewan's presence definitely contributed and once again if you have the big 3 together in the finale very few riders are going to do anything other than sit on when gaps present. Wonder if long term we'll more races picked up by big outsiders just because of it.

A well earnt win for Stuyven

SKA strong like bull, smart like tractor
I disagree. His odds of beating Stuyven in a sprint were low to begin with. He made a play for 2nd and a somewhat possible first if Stuyven cracks. His other option was to finish outside the Top-10.

It is not like they would have stayed ahead if he wheelsucked Stuyven more. And even then I think Stuyven would still have outsprinted him as there was such a large gap between them.

Ewan needed a team mate in the final km but he looked great on the climb. Matthews and Ewan both must be wondering what they have to do to win MSR.
