When I finish firefighting, and have sorted out dinner (I'm not going to make my wife cook when it's my turn just because some people of a forum lack self-restraint)

Is talking about the stage being shortened - and even mentioning how it was a little unclear where the new finish line was - the line on the road, or the 8 Ks to go banner? - without mentioning the reason why that was really a "lack of self-restraint"?

Tell the truth! Your wife rules the house! (Like in every decent relationship eheheh)

Admins/owners will be way, way more strict on this because they're always rather safe than sorry. In my view moderators have been trying very fairly to draw a line somewhere, including handing out bans as little as they can.

So in my view it's fairly asinine to not give the mods any benefit of the doubt and to act like the forum has no point anymore because a few posts get deleted during a series of events that have not happened to this sport since the forum first went online.
Couldn't agree more. Mods have been INCREDIBLY lenient on all this. Please give them some leeway. This "cancel the forum" and "cancel the race" stuff...well I'll just say it's not a good look.

Hey! @Armchair Cyclist and @Cookster15 I found a gluestick for you!

I think it was pretty clear that I was blaming the admins, not the mods.
I only just saw this but I also appreciate that. Its been challenging to put it mildly. The Tour was daunting but this Vuelta even tougher. I also appreciate what @Red Rick has added as a former mod.

Hats off to @Armchair Cyclist who wore the brunt as the "fun" usually occurred live while I was sleeping. In my time zone I only came in after the fact and could be presented with up to 15 reports to read, decipher and judge - at before 6am in my mornings.

What I would also like to reiterate is more mods would definitely help - particularly during the time of clock that racing normally takes place in Europe. Armchair Cyclist was on his own most of this time.

In the past there were certainly more mods. Open invitations and direct invitations for new mods were declined. So I would hope a little more tolerance of mods just trying to do their best. In my travels and in this forum I always prefer to apply the principle of "assume positive intent".

I can also imagine that some of the more agreeable ones (like @Samu Cuenca @Sciatic @Krzysztof_O) are perhaps also more bothered by the inherent conflicts involved in modding?

I'm lazy plus they don't pay enough to consider this job. I wouldn't call myself agreeable IRL but I use forum more for entertainment purposes and don't want to waste nerves for some discussions.

I'm too lazy to do the job even if I did get paid. Also instead of deleting posts, I would replace them with even more of my bad jokes. It would be horrible for everyone involved.

I would happily do the work I'm getting paid to do. No pay, no work.

Now that the Vuelta is over I have to hand it to @Armchair Cyclist and @Cookster15 They got dealt a crappy hand with this one, and I think they managed it admirably overall.
It's a very crappy hand, but it's also very easy to just say: "these are the forum rules and we are just going to apply them". These rules were created in different times, when the situation wasn't like it is now. With all the sportwashing, and protests, you can't keep this away from the forum. There needs to be a better solution then banning all conversations about it. It's silly.

I agree with the gist of your message, but revising and rewriting the rules is not part of the mods' job description

what about if we had a politics regarding the races forum, much like we have a doping forum?

That would be the only place where we could discuss the politics directly affecting races (and not politics in general)

There was a US and I think world politics thread in the cafe but they closed them both down in I think 2015-2016 due to the extreme toxicity.

I wasn't talking about a general politics forum, just a forum where we could discuss the politics that are affecting the races themselves.

In other words, talking about how to deal with protests, OK
Discussing who is right in Israel vs Gaza, out of bounds

Much like how the clinic discusses doping specific to the sport

Indeed, that’s we aren’t going to discuss Kirk for example
