You omitted the most important part of the post you quoted -

Too many threads here can be characterized by "wash, rinse, repeat". Did you know that there are "official" threads for Contador, LA, Flandis? Do you think the forum would benefit by allowing a new thread about a particular personage every time a stray thought pops into a posters head?

no, i did not omit the most important part. i don't disagree that the thread should not rehash old arguments not germane to the original subject of the thread. my objection was to how he expressed this.

So you should take his advice and start your own forum or live with the rules of this one. Whaaaaa

i do live within the rules. i did not stray off topic and was not chastised by the moderator for straying off topic. i was not defending those who strayed off topic. i took issue with how the moderator expressed the need to stay on topic. perhaps you should read the thread before commenting. here is the link.

as i understand it, the forum rules are there to ensure clean, civil, and productive discourse.

shouldn't the moderators be held to this same (or even higher) standard?

Don't really know what to say except CN Forum, CN Mods (volunteer - don't ever forget that), CN rules (written and unwritten).

If you do not like how mods express themselves, my unsolicited advice is move on.

Or you can put them on ignore. :D

very funny!:D i won't resort to putting anyone ignore, though. i am interested in what everybody has to say, agree or disagree.

i have a question for you. don't you think the rules and decorum here should apply equally to everybody? I know the mods are volunteers. even so, they should be the ones setting the example. otherwise this place would turn into the RBR forum-and nobody wants that.

every time a moderator act upon someone's post the circumstances and history are taken into account in at least a minor way circumstances depending).

review the post you are complaining about in the contet of a moderator who may be tired, is certainly not compensated for his efforts, and perhaps didnt have the time to proofread his response.

In that context I would say, sure its a bit short and narky bu hardly offensive. Besides you have been here more than long enough to have seen a lot worse

A fine line between rules/decorum/setting an example and herding the regulars. Note that some regulars frequently cross over the line - see the banned thread.

For the most part, I feel the mods here do a very good job. If one of them occasionally comes off sounding like they have a God complex, well, in the forum they are minor gods and have the right to appear cranky from time to time. I know I would. Actually, it would be way beyond cranky. And it would not be appearing cranky - it would be full blown ultra cranky.

I wish the "Thor confirms BMC! Better for Cadel?" thread to be closed. It is just discussing a transfer when we have dedicated transfers and rumours thread for such discussion and it is being discussed there as well.

The best way to raise this type of thing is to use the "report to moderator" button on a post in the thread you are concerned about.

I'll have a look at this - its a bigger than normal transfer given Thor's recent garmin 'issues'.

Thank you for considering it even though I did it the wrong way, sorry. I will do it that way in the future.

Its cool - you didn't do it "wrong" just the report system is more effectual because we get emails straight away. :D

I have moved the posts re: Lowe/White/JV to the thread in the Clinic, please keep the discussions separate.

Why move it to the Clinic? It has nothing to do with drugs, and it could be the genesis of the aussie's dispute with Vaughters. There are those who are saying that the complaints about Thor are just a way of taking shots at Vaughters to settle old scores.

The posts were moved because the material was more relevant to the existing (Lowe/JV) thread than the one in which they were being discussed (Hushovd/JV). Using the Lowe/JV case to make a point for the other would be fine, but discussing the intricacies of it should be done in that specific thread.

Lots of people do not even read The Clinic so they cannot contribute to the discussion even though it had nothing to do with drugs. That line of discussion had just come around full circle and was about to delve into why the aussies have it in for Vaughters. Essentially the origins of the twitter dispute cannot be discussed because there is an old thread in the Clinic.

Anyway, I had no desire to add anything to that old thread, so I deleted all my posts. If I had wanted to discuss Lowe's possible drug use then I would have posted to The Clinic in the first place.

Im confused regarding the new rules.

The first post is perfectly fair and good but then the second post brings back the horrid 3 strikes system which was about as successful as Lances return to cycling.

Only it says "TDF rules" and finishes with "enjoy the Tour"

So does that mean those rules are not in effect now in August, seeing as the Tour is over?

Can Ryo Hazuki be reinstated before the Vuelta?
I know he says some stuff at times but the guy is quality with his opinions. I cant say I agree with all of them but anyway still interesting.

I'm dying to know his view on Henao joining Sky next year. :p

I'm mad at him because he presumably got himself banned just to avoid having to see his fancy Andy avatar next to every post.

I agree. Bring him back.

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone be so wrong so consistently. The TdF stage that had the wet descent just before the finish was just epic. Literally everything Ryo predicted was off. He was scary good at being wrong that day.:D
