Not necessarily true - keep reading:

Just like the rules we apply in the other areas of the forum - don't attack the messenger, attack the message. In other words - be specific, point to a specific action or post - and get your reasoning in line. No using false logic as shown in that great infographic here:
http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/rhetological-fallacies/

Thirteen put it exceedingly well.

Where did I make my pesrsonal attack on Netserk though,

I accept I made one on BroDeal which was retalotory and against the rules.

I also not you missed out Thirteen's personal attack against King Boonen from the original post.

I think if moderation was more consistent we would be happy, but I doubt that is possible due to the quality of mods.

I think he meant upright. Yes, its good to be back reading posts from upright people (such as your good self) sounds about right. And it was either an unfortunate typo or perhaps an autocorrect issue ;)

I thought it was against the rules to modify in a quote what soemone said, but I guess rules don't apply to moderators

Del, it's because you're such an upright fellow I knew you wouldn't mind me making a small joke and informing every reader by using the universally recognised and accepted method of single word quote alteration "fixed it for you" along with a winky ;) emoticon.

I have been away for a week, so obviously I couldn't stop it (so I (am trying to) stop it now).

If you want to continue to discuss modding take it to the relevant thread.

My last post on this.
But I am not blaming you - the fact you were on holiday is not relevant, there should have been plenty of other mods here and this has been going on for a long time.

And this is the relevant thread - as it clearly shows that things were not picked up in a timely fashion.

The next time you post off topic after I've clearly stated where that should go, I won't be so friendly to just move for you.

Interesting - and right to the point.

Why should you "clearly" have to state the point? Off topic, is off topic - I should be sanctioned/warned etc.
You are making a threat and flexing your moderation muscle because I ignored you, not because I posted off topic.

That 'movistar' thread was veering off topic on page one. In fact I made a joke about how it would struggle to page 2.
That it got to 19 pages is because Sky got introduced, which is fine for comparison, but it eventually descended in to the same arguments about Sky/Froome (later JV/McQuaid) that are in many threads.

Don't blame me (or indeed any other poster) - this a moderation issue.
Not blaming you personally, because you are only one mod and it appears without any type of direction.

There has been little intervention and that has allowed posters post whatever they want, wherever they want.

Because I prefer not to sanction, when I think I can find another solution to the problem. In this case to remind posters of the rules. If the gentle solution works, there is no reason to use the harsher.

The rules? The rule is not go 'off topic'.
I didnt take it off topic - it was long since off topic. The gentle solution didn't work.

And the 'warning' or threat wasn't to do with the off topic, it was because I ignored you.

Things don't become true just because you repeat them.

The gentle solution both worked and didn't work. You and Benotti haven't clogged any thread since my post. There have still been a few off topic posts afterwards.

So the next step in the cases where the gentle solution didn't work, is to delete/edit/move posts.

The 'warning' was because you were still off topic after my reminder, so I assessed that a little firmer solution was necessary.

If that solution also doesn't work, it's obvious that I will have to find a new solution. 'Cause that's what I try to do. Find solutions.

Indeed - but its true because it is true.

It went slightly off topic on page 1 - totally by page 2, back in early July.
Even including the forum downtime it has morphed to page 19 and now there is an intervention?

The gentle solution did not work.

The solution is both obvious and easy.

When a thread goes off-topic intervene, right there, right then. Simple.
You can do the gentle reminder and go harsher if ignored - thats perfectly fair and acceptable.

Dr. Mas,

While you of course have a point that timely moderation is required, the best solution is that forum members, particularly long-time members who know the rules, simply follow the rules.

You and Benotti were insulting each other and taking a personal spat way too far, and it was well off topic. The best solution is for both of you to stop...of course.

You've had your say and we've heard it, the thread needs more eyeballs. Got it. Blaming the mods for not policing your behavior is at this point unproductive.

On your end, simply stop engaging in the behavior that is causing the issue. To be clear, that behavior is getting personal in your comments toward Benotti and taking threads wildly off-topic. Same goes for Benotti...of course.

People, it's your forum. It is what you make it. Stop *****ing about others and right your own ship before you come here and complain.
Thank you.

Hold on - let's be clear here.
I have already acknowledged my part, and my blame.

I continued the off topic posts. But I did not start it. If Benotti or whoever else is allowed post something and you guys (mods) let it be there than I have every right to query or discuss it.

"Wildly off topic"??
No such thing. It's either off topic or not.

Exactly what behavior of mine is causing an issue? I have been doing the exact same since I joined in 09. Exact same.

Ok, this is complete horsesh!t.

Don't dare blame me are anyone else here.
"It's your forum, it's what you make it" -complete twaddle, we are members of this forum, which is meant to have rules and moderators to keep things on check.
'We' have zero input when the mods sit idly by and do nothing.

Actually, this thread is as much as a member can do to highlight something - and you get angry and request me to get my own ship in order.

The Movistar thread went OT ages ago - back in July.

I would argue most people here will abide the rules - when you requested assistance some time ago people were happy to assist and report posts, making your role easier. But when people see certain threads being consistently trolled, and posts left stay without moderation or intervention they will stop assisting.
Don't blame the members when they see inconsistent or no moderation.

"He started it!" is child talk and irrelevant. If you decide to continue off-topic posting, you (and others of course) will face sanctions. Period.

We do need people to report posts, as we can't cover every thread. We appreciate it when people report them.

With regard to the forum, 2 mods have now instructed you on where you've misstepped. Complaining about it further will not change anything. You have been warned. Thanks.

And I have already acknowledged it and I am totally prepared to take any sanction.

Take responsibility for yourself and stop looking to find blame everywhere else. That's free advice.
To be clear - I actually want you guys to do what you are supposed to.
I will happily abide by what way the forum is run - and if you and the rest of the mods ignore the off topic posts etc then I don't see any reason why I shouldn't too.

This is the moderator thread - Netserk moved it here. Yes, I am complaining about the moderation here, I am telling you straight up where i believe the problem is with this forum.

So, what am i being warned about?

That off-topic posting is against the rules no matter the circumstances. You stated:

"If Benotti or whoever else is allowed post something and you guys (mods) let it be there than I have every right to query or discuss it".

You are incorrect. If and when we do find off-topic postings, the lack of previous moderation or "who started it" will not be factors in how we choose to moderate.

You know when you're off topic. You can ignore off topic postings addressed to you, you can report them, or you can respond in kind. Your choice. You don't get a get-out-of-jail-free-card because someone else started it or we didn't mod the thread to your personal level of satisfaction.

If you need to parse that further you're on your own. I think I've been overly clear. Thanks.

I haven't asked for a get out of jail card - I have already said I am prepared to accept a sanction.

So the "warning" is meaningless, and appears a threat -which quite frankly I don't give a hoot about.
What I would really like is some consistency.

Are these "warnings" and consequences for everyone or just me?

No, on or off topic is often a very gray area. If a post is made and stays up then it is no longer off topic it has become part of the discussion (topic) and there is nothing wrong with responding to it, or to a response to it etc.
This is not College Physics it's a discussion board and discussions are plastic, they chance direction based upon the input of the discussies (not a word?). If any one individual doesn't like the turn a particular discussion has taken there is nothing to stop him (except mods) from taking up whatever he thought the original discussion was in a new thread. This is kind of the way that conversations work in the real world, no?

correct. and after a little bit if conversation someone usually points out the convo has veered off topic and voila! . It's not a single post that's the problem, it's a prolonged off topic discussion.
