I do know Sceptic is a troll. I've just read his/her post history

You reviewed more than 4,000 posts in less than an hour?

Why not? They all say pretty much the same thing.

When certain posters who are the root cause, see themselves as the cure, things are not going to get better, only worse.

Certainly, many of us desiring diverse, intelligent debate on more than one topic without juvenile jibes, now give this place a wide berth.

Maybe a stint as mod should be mandatory, like jury duty or the draft.

I think you're on to something here.

Perhaps the best was to institute such a policy would be to tie it into the signup process.

You want to joint the forum?
You're required to be a mod for three months first.

Bringing in mods with no posting history themselves would eliminate the possible conflict of interests created when arch enemies suddenly find that only one of them has access to the Delete button.

And without the emotional attachment to this place that is often forged after years of posting, "new" members acting as mods might bring a healthy perspective to things.

And with a three month term limit in place, anyone behaving poorly as a mod would then be subject to ridicule and harassment by their peers once they lost their super powers. New mods coming in would then witness this, and woe to them who were unable to learn from the mistakes of others.

In time, every member would've served their term as a mod, and this would likely defuse much of the tension between US and THEM that surfaces so very often.

If some members felt that they had proven themselves to be both effective and likable mods, after one year of regular forum participation, they would then be eligible to seek nomination for another term if so desired.

Just think about how entertaining Campaign Season might become! :)

The problem is that considering that some of the mods who've been members of this forum for years have a hard enough time getting respect. Imagine how difficult it might be for someone who's a complete newcomer. Other than that there's also the risk of having trolls being mods...

Also... I'd hate being a mod. I'd be bad, really bad!

Which brings me to a question I've wanted to ask for a long time, how can you look back further than the last 500 posts in someone's posting history?

As long as a user doesn't have more than 1,000 posts in one forum, you can find all of their posts through the search system. (500 newest + 500 oldest = 1,000).

I hope this image explains how to switch between newest and oldest:
DWSy3.jpg

For those with more than 1,000 posts in one forum you can still find all (or most) of their posts, but that takes a little longer.

You can also use the 'find posts from:', but I think the option I have showed is the easiest.

bro is right, the clinic is dying.

I don't see what problem you have with the clinic. The overwhelming majority of posters side with you on the main discussion. You are allowed to say a lot of things and mods usually only step in when there are insults. Even on other sports, you can for example freely talk about Nadal doping (which you feel strongly about) which on 99% of internet sites would get you not only banned and dismissed as a troll but put you at risk of cyber attacks from fanboys.

Besides in the hog and others you seem to through the clinic have gound a number of like minded individuals if not internet "friends".

What don't you like about it? Why talk down a good thing?

"new" members...

I just thought the possibilities might liven things up a bit.

But it does raise an important point, and I think I've come up with a solution.

Under special circumstances there could be a poll-like feature available . If enough members (and there would have to be a pre-established minimum threshold installed) were opposed to a certain mod—or were convinced of their sock puppetry—that mod could simply be voted of the island.

Truth be told, you left because no one but jingoistic Brits plus a few who blame Armstrong for everything was buying Brailsford's magic beans.

I'll tell you why this place is in trouble

The power certain posters wield over mods in getting others banned.

We all know it's going on.

It's like a kid hitting another kid on the playground, the other kid hits back, and the first kid runs off and gets an adult.

Some people are apparently not allowed reply to other poster's posts - yet the same rules aren't enforced the other way round.

Anyway I'll probably get a ban for that.

So where is the same concern for links and sources when it comes to RR? Making a few accusations about JTL seems like minor stuff compared to the accusations leveled at Joe Papp.

I'm afraid this could not be further from the truth. Have had PMs from both about this, Papp was very far from convincing and that's the nicest thing I can say about it. RR was not n the wrong here. My 2 cents.

Rubbish. If the place is dying it has nothing whatsoever to do with this.

But since you bring it up and since I'm calling you on it and since everyone knows what's going on go ahead and provide some examples.

Brodeal knows what's going on.

Hog knows.
RR, not that he'd admit it, knows what's going on behind the scenes.

I know that you are yet again inventing a conspiracy theory that has no basis in reality

Funny how when people mention the secret deals the mods have in place that prevent certain posters from replying to other posters, the mods clam up and allow Race to lie about it.

Are there any details about that supposed deal? Just out of curiosity, I wanna know if there's anything to it, or if you're just talking out of your a$$. You can send those details per PM if you want.

My PMs are not convincing. The only funny thing about them is RR's self aggrandizing explanation that everything needed to be kept on the down low because it might "compromise an investigation."

The bottom line is that serious charges were made against Papp. There was never a shred of evidence.

Lie about it? What are you talking about?

Mods, feel free to publish any DM, emails, or anything else that has me requesting that other posters not reply to me

These conspiracy theories are going overboard.

Hog is actually the one with the biggest lobby in here.

I don't think anyone comes close to his amount of tempbans, others get permbanned way sooner. That's just how it is, plain and simple.

Ryo has had dozens of tempbans too, but those are usually for misogyny.

There are no secret deals of any kind being made.

The simplest explanation is that you have made this up entirely -- because nothing of the sort exists.

You banned thehog for, and I quote:

"Thehog is banned for a month for deliberately disregarding a direct commitment (s)he made ."

Despite you guys trying to be cryptic and refusing to give details when people asked about it, we all know what happened. We also also watched RR try to bait thehog so he would get banned.
