For the record, I did not question anyone's identity - I questioned the use of their username.
Two very different things.

If someone wishes to remain anonymous - here is a free tip, do not use your real name or real nickname.

Susan - you go by your real name. You do so to be identifiable and so that users here know that you post as a member of CN or as a mod.
I have seen people here question you and ask who you are if its genuine, then rightly so. It would be ridiculous to punish those that do so.

Also, the Username thread was closed because it had turned - how can you turn a thread back when it is closed?
You may not like it - but a valid and (IMO) pretty serious issue has arisen - in particular if someone is abusing someones real identity.

While I am scratching my head how a life-ban gets reduced to 2 weeks -
Aphronesis and indeed College bans were excessive - and as this forum well knows life bans only encourage banned users to set up new accounts and as they know they will be banned again they troll until removed.

A 1 week ban for 'insulting' when many others appear to get a day for the first suspension feels a bit harsh to me. Oh well.

I am disgusted by the fact that I am not allowed to say nasty things about Wiggins but others are allowed to say nasty things about Alberto.

But is this really the best way to get revenge? Just stay serene and polite - that's what drives the haters crazy! When you sink to their level they have achieved their goal. Just take the high road!

This is a very difficult month to be a moderator on CN.

I think if you have any difficulty with that you should really think about what you are posting before posting it!

I am sure most Mods wanting to be enjoying the TdF as much as anyone without having to read every post.

Easy solution, think before posting.

Oh wow, Christian explains it a billion times nicer than Susan.

But just so you know. I don't post nasty things about other riders because others post nasty things about Alberto. It's not about revenge.

I say whatever I want to say and others do exactly the same thing. But I get warned and the others don't get warned.

It's not "he hit me first" no it is "we both hit someone yet I get punished". There is a difference.

I don't know where you got this "revenge" thing from. And I won't stay serene and polite when people are ****ting all over Alberto again because I despise these people.

To be clear, there is a lot of leeway given to comments about public figures.

There is little or no leeway given to insulting other forum members.

I don't know what you've been warned for, but you also don't necessarily know what others have been warned for.

Basically...

ADmitting to trolling, even outside of the forum, is not a good idea.

Nor is taking shots at someone else as revenge.

You will be facing a ban if you continue in this vein. You would hate to miss contador's return, wouldn't you?

Susan

Because I didn't understand the bolded I asked what she meant.

Ok, look at it this way: you feel you can say nasty things about Wiggins/Froome/Schleck/whoever becuase of all the crap you have to take because of your position on Contador.

You can't.

Susan

Which I still don't completely understand. Is Susan a psychologist, does she know what is going on inside my mind? As I said earlier it has got nothing to do with revenge.

I hope Susan won't mind me posting this if she does she can delete it.

From what I read of the messages you've posted here, Susan is asking you not to troll regarding other riders. I don't know the whole history, but hope the following general comments help.

Trolling can be generally defined as posting something with the specific intent of stirring up trouble or getting a negative reaction, or posting disingenuously to get reactions.

One can have a negative opinion of a rider and share it and not be trolling. One can have a negative opinion of a rider and share it and definitely be trolling. It's subjective, but if you are saying you're posting out of revenge it's a pretty clear admission that your intent is other than to further the current discussion, whatever that may have been.

Cycling can be very nationalistic in nature, and some degree of one-upsmanship tends to come along with that fact. As long as we're respectful to one another, no matter our opinion of a particular rider, the forum should flourish. We should try and have a pretty thick skin where public figures are concerned, they're going to come under some criticism. It's my experience that people on all sides tend to think "everyone" is out to get their guy, which can't logically be true, even if it feels that way at times.

Best advice is as you recognized above, and please try to have faith that you're only being warned because of you posting style, not because of who you root for.

For my part I like and root for Contador and am pretty even to negative on Wiggins. The logic for such, if it exists (and that's doubtful), would be too convoluted to explain. I likes who I likes. Enjoy your Contador fan-dom!

To be fair it appears the word "revenge" was simply a poorly chosen expression by me, LaFlorecita later categorically denied criticizing other riders out of revenge

Good, glad that's the case. The larger points about not trolling (if such were the case) and not making things personal (if such were the case) are really the main points. Thanks everyone!

Lol, the trolling part is hilarious. I posted an article in which Wiggo said he thinks he gets too little credit and he whines about people saying ""Why is Contador not here?" So I posted something I tweeted (I miss @albertocontador, @bradwiggins is so boring) and I said "I trolled Wiggo." That is where the trolling thing comes from.  :D

Susan

No but it's annoying because I don't know what I'm doing wrong so I can't change anything right?
