Contador and the details of 1 million €

During the Tour, Fran Contador Alberto Contador's manager, said that his brother would definitely stay at Astana in 2011: "We had a meeting with sponsors. We just have to agree on some details and I think there would be no problems. Among these details are now triple the salary of the winner of the Tour. Estimated 4 million annual gross in 2010, the salary of the Spanish rider is now trading around 5 million €.
One detail that counts.

€5000000 a year is nothing compared to what most football stars, tennis stars, basketball stars, etc make.

Football stars play at least once every week for 10 months a year. Same for basket or baseball. Tennis stars are obliged to play the 4 grands + 10-11 ATP Master 1000 tournaments. The regular media exposure along the season and the sources of income of those sports cannot be compared to those of cycling.

That's actually not the reason at all. Most cyclists race all year long and no offence, but football players are a bunch of pussies. Cycling is a way tougher and harder sport.

The reason why they get paid so little compared to other sports is because the teams get no income at all from the broadcasting rights of cycling events.

Yep, the Pro Tour could have rectified that somewhat but Verbruggen screwed that up. Also hurts that cycling isn't able to make money off attendance.

18/09/2010 à 12h27 > Schleck Bros. no team name yet ....

Team Letzebuerg$$$ sponsor Mercedes Benz
