More races gone?

Two nice announcements to the contrary for a change. Firstly, that Omloop van het Houtland returned this year after not being able to make it work last year, and secondly:

The UCI European Tour added another race for the 2018 season, with the Great War Remembrance Race set to take place on August 24 in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France.

The race, organised by Flanders Classics and the Gent-Wevelgem organisation, will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War in 2018, but aims to "safeguard continuing awareness of this historic war, so that we will never forget", according to a press release.

The August date lands the event between the Cyclassics Hamburg and the Bretagne Classic-Ouest-France in Plouay.

For now there are no Mallorca races on the calendar and also the Tour of Austria isn't on the calendar.

Great news. Personally intrigued by Colombia Oro and Paz (lave the name), Aragon and Deutchland Tour. Should all be great races, I'd love to see Quintana race in Colombia in February. Also noticed a race in South Africa at the same time, maybe Froome will go? :D

Need to look closer at those races. The Peace Race should also be interesting!

Horrible, just horrible. Flanders Classics further monetizing one of the most tragic events in modern history.

is the Vuelta a la Comunitat Valenciana coming back? It's on the UCI calender as a 2.1 race from 3-7 feb.

Valencia came back in 2016 and is still there for 2018

I want Mallorca, Valencia and Murcia back, just like the old PCM 06 days. :(
? I probably don't understand your reference but Mallorca and Murcia haven't actually gone away although the later is now only one day sadly I used to love it when it was over several days.

What's the status for Bayern Rundfahrt and the Tour of Turkey?

The Tour of Turkey will be held 10-15 October this year and a similar time next year, according to the calendar. It's a WT race and it would have been "big" news if it had been dropped without even yet being ridden once as a WT race!

Believe only 2 WT teams for Turkey - They'll need to better next year to keep their WT status.

And one of those 2 teams said they would go if they could find riders willing to go to Turkey but at the time (February) not a single rider on the squad was willing

Maybe the Turkish government will offer some €€€ to riders.

Vuelta a Aragón is coming back also in May 2018.

Spanish cycling (slowly) regenerating itself at race and team level.

Will be a long journey to build back the infrastructure we had in the 90's and 2000's that allowed us to produce the great champions we mourn today.

Cheers

Aragón is the coming region. It's been quiet since Escartín, but three of the biggest young prospects - Castrillo, Samitier and Barceló - are all Aragonese. And the Aramón ski resorts have been willingly paying for the Vuelta regularly in recent years, although strangely not at Cerler which is the most established of the resorts.

Nice news. It's good to see spanish cycling reviving somewhat with Murias and Burgos BH becoming pro-continental too.

We have some informations about the brand new Adriatica Ionica Race https://www.adriaticaionicarace.com/gara/

The first edition will start from Venice and end in Ljubjana after five days (and a passage in Austria).
In the second edition will be added Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia.
In the third also Macedonia, Albania and Greece with a finish in Athens after ten days.

Seems a very big project, they already have signed for TV coverage in 54 countries.

Excellent news. The calendar is in sore need of more cross-border races and maybe this will even kickstart pro racing in the Balkans. There should be plenty of companies in the tourism sector that would interested in sponsoring this.
