have not watched 20 Feet From Stardom but i put my headphones on and you are right about Lisa Fischer...her voice is as you say! goose bumps.

did not know that it was her singing back-up to Sting's hounds of winter. more Lis Fischer gorgeousness...

I can only wonder what other talents have been lost because they haven't had access to to the world of white superstars...

I bet there's been some good tribal parties around the world we've missed though.

indeed, i suspect you are right, about talents lost and tribal parties, RetroActive :D

at least we have the internet and wikipedia for taking a closer look at the Stones, Beatles, you name it, and find the tribes and talents who inspired some white English speaking superstars and made their songs more rich and beautiful.

Have been listening to some tracks from Rhythm of the Saints after a posting here of Graceland. And if we are talking of incorporating world music from that time by Sting, Simon, and others... i have to go to one of my favorites - Peter Gabriel. The soundtrack from Last Temptation of Christ, i adore.

Anyway, I'm listening to Labradford - Mi Media Naranja. Here's the entire album, of which I'm especially fond of the first track 'S'. (That's the first 6.20 minutes). Beautiful instrumental postrock.

listened to a bit of this which i'd never heard before. sounds wonderful. will need much more time with it, thanks :)

If you've never listened to Sources (Peter Gabriel - The last Temptation Of Christ) before (you probably have)you may find it stimulating:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1l-B4CCQM4&list=PLMhMjx-6nNIV6f8gpdllgyN6SYTCBBVv-

Another more eclectic one is Peter Gabriel Ovo:

You've probably heard them before but Richie Havens still has a voice like a horn on the Ovo tracks.:)

had not listened to Sources - very interesting tracks. i guess i like lively Egyptian percussion and drumming a lot... and for a change of pace, this haunting and lovely Armenian "Song of Complaint"

Ovo is a treasure. thanks very much for posting it.

the angel voice of Elisabeth Fraser gives the album its ethereal beauty, but the part i didn't get is that she is from Cocteau Twins and the voice on Massive Attack - Teardrop. someone in the comment section pointed that out!

Ovo - Downside Up, Father-Son, Make Tomorrow, The Nest That Sailed the Sky, Low Light...can't decide on a favorite :)

Been cycling for a while, never broke anything, despite plenty crashes. Worst involved a drunken driver who tried to throw cash at the problem.

Mountaineering otoh, major scars, but nothing that holds me back.
Aplogies, meant to reply to this earlier...

In my so far very young cycling career I've crashed about half a dozen times thanks to panicking - I knew I was going down, my very first instict was to get myself off the bike as fast as I could. But each time the even very slanted top tube got in the way, I ended up landing on my left knee. (If nothing else I've got some impressive road rash scars on my left knee to show for my very young cycling endeavors, and I've decided bikes with top tubes just aren't for me.)

Alphabet Street - Prince

In honor of Tangerine Dream's founder, Edgar Froese, who passed away yesterday. The band went through many iterations and sounds, but here's a great sampling of their early work:

Ricochet.

And a nice solo album, Macula Transfer.

Have you seen the "celtic" adaptation by Ceol Leinn. Just awesome. :)

The original version is the song I enjoy most playing on my guitar. ;)

Yeah RIP Edgar. Very innovative prog rocker. Those freezing, spatial synthe sound, hmm. Ricochet is a masterpiece and I especially like their live version at the Coventry Cathedral.

I also like Cinnamon Road, even though by then they walked a bit away from Prog Rock.
