I'm one of the few people who doesn't think this is the best song ever written, but the emotional context got it across the line.

I don’t think it was even the best song Leonard Cohen ever wrote. I'm not familiar with all his work, but I’d go with Suzanne, and no one sang it better than Judy Collins, who once told Cohen that singing it “gets me higher than anything”.

I introduced you turbo-folk several months ago, a moment ago I've heard a huge hit from the time, grooving down the neighbourhood in this late hour... some freshmen crew having a party (high school company has classes tomorrow, so I'm guessing they aren't partying).
All of a sudden turbo-folk became evergreen... Think about relativity of pop culture and aesthetics.. It's socially constructed phenomena. Nothing new in the statement, but creates a discourse inside of which any value can be sold.
It's not happening only in my neighbourhood.

I think my love of Flipper is pretty well-known by now, but Cows were their spiritual successors, a playful and wilfully uncool AmRep band with some of the most beautifully ugly tones around. Especially on Almost a God where the drums are almost drowned out by tar. But you could get a great pop song emerge from the primordial soup once in a while, such as Hitting the Wall.
