Matt went through a phase of twang and Hanky Panky album is worth your time. Don't know your setup but I use Spotify and Amazon music and I can select entire album and it plays start to finish. Maybe YouTube has it also.. But maybe commercial interrupted
Thanks for the info.
I have or have access to vinyl and CDs of most of this.

Burning Blue Soul was my favourite The The record (I know it was originally put out under his own name and re-issued as a The The album after Infected was a hit), just one of those distant, ethereal "beamed in from another planet" production albums, despondent, disaffected and with the same healthy dose of cynicism that Matt has always had.

One of my first jobs was working as a plate scraper in a high end steak house in Scottsdale. Job was to pre clean everything before it went into automatic dishwasher.. After work the owner and head chef would get wasted and play with the band ,sing multiple songs, sometimes more than it once by Dion and The Turtles, other bands of the era. Owner would let all underage employees get plowed, as many free drinks as you wanted..not sure that I ever wanted to memorize Happy Together, Run Around Sue or The Wander but I liked all the benefits at the time. They were old songs back then.

I listened to The Beaten Generation and it hits my soul each time

I didn't realize he was getting me prepared as a kid to be jaded as an adult.

And an appropriately skeptical bike racing analyst. Give Matt a great credit for making beautiful music within these moods.
"This is the Day" was the first song on a tape my brother had recorded for me after a rough separation/divorce prelude period. I queued it up on a glorious sunny day, early Spring on top of Baldy Mountain before pushing off. Seemed like everything was going to turn out all right after that.
40 years later I remember it every sunny day I look down on the Valley and the other snowy mountain ranges before regaining a bit of youth.
