Come to think of it, maybe Killing Joke's was too. This is the Damned from 1982: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaDbMZlN2Pg ;) And yes, KJ ware one of a kind. Was it after the first record that Jaz convinced himself that there was a nuclear war coming and that Iceland would be the ideal place to duck the fallout. He lived there a couple of years if I remember correctly.

On another note, I'd like to add Mission of Burma to Libertine's concise listing, although some might disagree whether they really represent post punk in its purest form at all. For one thing they are American! If you have spotify, check out Burma's "Weatherbox" and "Tremelo" from the Horrible Truth about Burma live recording. So intense. Somehow they are not on youtube. The album versions from "Vs." are good, but less jagged: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPqm1r-r1wU

Gang of Four and Wire are worth mentioning, too.

Pere Ubu were on my list, they're American!

Also I'd throw some of the American "no-wave" and post-punk acts out there. Some of these guys are the loudest, nastiest bands ever:

Theoretical Girls:

Glenn Branca/The Static:

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks:

Flipper:

North By North is quite a song, on3m!

Vampire Weekend is always a good listen.

My weekend list:

Waterstride - Constellation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SARWDkFTUoY

The Canon Logic - Howl in the Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF-OY8D1jbU

Hooded Fang - Highway Steam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5X3zsVTris

MERGENCE - Dynamite & Kerosene
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15QkZmFaxC0

Nice. Really like Hooded Fang.

I also liked the symphonic picks by Tank Engine,
and Kinks are always good too Kvinto.

Now here's my halloween contribution:
Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London

http://vodpod.com/watch/1385218-warren-zevon-werewolves-of-london

I could only find non-cheesy versions on dailymotion and vodpod. Maybe one of those links works for you.

Radio is now playing "born to run" by springsteen. Resisting the urge to turn it up full blast......

Susan

That is an urge that should not be resisted - though you may have to put headphones on, depending on where you are!;)
