Did you hear Nico's interview ....sounds like he wants out of SKY

Why would he want to stay unless they are offering him substantially more money than other teams? He went there with the intention of being a domestique at the Tour and having leadership at some other races. At this point he's not in the Tour squad and is further down the pecking order for leadership at other races than when he went there. He might have to take a pay cut to move to a team where he will play a more central role, but he's not at least yet content to be a career domestique like Deignan.

I do however hope that he doesn't end up somewhere where he'll be encouraged to start targeting a Tour top 10 or something similar. The world has enough of that kind of rider.

He was suggesting it was about freedom to attack in races ...that being part of the SKY set up was good but he wanted the chance to ride as an attacking racer ...I think he knows that GC is not where he is at but on the other hand he did say he wanted freedom/leadership at the Vuelta

Not certain he will leave SKY but it didn't sound like he was staying either...I think probably knows that Tour selection is key and if you can;t get on a Tour team you need to look around to a team where you will...its the biggest shop window for a cyclist

It's a pity that Cancellara won the individual time trial, probably there wasn't anybody else who could win it but it means the Swiss ITT jersey won't appear on the road in the first half of next season. I think Cancellara should keep it until the end of the season and then give it to the rider who finished second (Reto Hollenstein). Also Uran should be wearing the jersey with the Olympic rings, and the same should happen whenever a rider with a distinctive jersey retires.

I would not like to see an Olympic jersey because I think it would artificially inflate the importance of the Olympic RR and in any case three or four years later is much too long for a rider to be crowing about long past achievements. I have no objection to stupid gold helmets or the like except those grounded in a basic sense of aesthetics.

I also don't like the idea of jerseys being inherited by someone who didn't win. Minor race jerseys are often worn by people who aren't actually the formal possessor of that jersey so as to give sponsors their money's worth. Having someone ride around for half a year dressed as a champion when they are not in fact a champion would just be embarrassing for all concerned. I doubt if any second place finisher would want the reminder.

My memory could be playing tricks on me, but I think Richard did wear an Olympic jersey in some races. Unlike the UCI I did not really mind it and would not have a problem should anyone reintroduce it.
IIRC Bettini and Sammy Sánchez wore jerseys with the rings displayed on the shoulders.

Bettini had a special one-off jersey commissioned when he was reigning World and Olympic champion, with the five rings in white over the rainbow stripes.

In most races she had to wear the normal team kit but in a few non-UCI races in 2011 Nicole Cooke had an Olympic design jersey, it was actually awesome, in full white with gold trim on the sleeves and the five rings. You can see it from the team launch photo below. For bonus plus points, you can see from Gio at the back there what an Italian champions' jersey SHOULD look like, after a few years of the Astana and Movistar rubbish.

At least we had Santaromita not long ago. Both nice jerseys at BMC and Orica.

I too wouldn't mind an Olympics jersey. Even if after four years after having won it the rider would still be showing off his achievment, because the Olympics should bear an extra value given they only happen once in such a long time frame. Yes, I know some people here utterly despise the Olympic Games.

I don't despise the Olympics, I just think that the Olympics are a relatively minor event in mass spectator sports with important events indigenous to their own sports. When the Olympics really matter in a particular sport it means that the sport itself has no real following or important traditions. The bigger your sport, the more trivial the Olympics is. Hyping the Olympics in road racing is effectively a way of devaluing the events that are actually integral to cycling.

The Olympic RR should be seen as the tenth most important race of the year, less important than three GTs, five Monuments and the WCRR. But more important than other classics, week long stage races GT stages.

Agree.

However, I love how Sami Sanchez embraced the title with his shoes etc. You were never in doubt that he had won the Olympics. But a jersey? Nah. Then I would rather see a World Tour-jersey, similar to the Pro Tour-jersey I remember watching Valverde wear in 2006. Those memories.

I think the Olympics are really suited for some kinda deta to the standard kit. I loved how Samu rode around in his gold shoes and sleeve bands. Totally fine. I dont think the games should be trivialised. 5 man teams make it all the cooler

I would prefer the Olympic rings on the sleeve instead of Samu's gold, because if you have a sleeve for gold, why not 2nd and 3rd place too?

Gold shoes for the rest of your career...I like the idea. It would be original.

A heap of national champions from lots of different teams haven't been mentioned on Cyclingnews so I don't think it has anything to do with the fact the riders you mentioned ride for Tinkoff
