Here's I think the issue the 49ers have. On one hand, they are built to win now for the most part. Especially on defense. If they are thinking they have a real shot at a title run next season, there's every indication Garappolo puts them in a far better position than Lance, who has yet to show he can lead a team to any wins, let alone a winning season. Lance looked like a project every time he played.

However, the 49ers did the opposite of the Rams, and gave up a LOT to get Lance. Two first round picks, and a third round pick, just to move up I believe 9 slots in the draft to get him. I believe they were looking to follow what KC did, with Alex Smith handing over the reins to Patrick Mahomes. But so far Lance has shown no indicaiton he's at the level of Mahomes. Again, so far.

Lance also plays a very different game than Jimmy G. He's more mobile by far, more dynamic because of his feet. So the team really should start scheming about now if they plan on going with him. What if they do, and he struggles almost as much as he did this past season when he played, and the team finishes 7-10. Then what?

You're the GM. What do you do?

Yes some big questions yet to be addressed. John Lynch just turned down a huge salary increase to join Amazon. I think he wants a SB win before deciding what's next and from his comments of late he seems to think Shanahan and Lance can deliver it. I think the 49ers will trade Jimmy but it remains to be seen whether that move improves them or even gets them as far in the next few seasons.

As for talk about Rodgers and Brady joining the 49ers I think its mostly hot air but I'm sure that Shanahan had a hollow feeling watching the Bucs win their SB when the 49ers had Brady there for the taking when he left the Patriots and he's never really explained why he preferred to continue with Jimmy instead of signing Brady. I think part of it was the final season Brady had with the Patriots. Shanahan might have talked himself into thinking that the Patriots lack of success that season was more to do with Brady than it actually was and the 49ers had just been to a SB with Jimmy.

Rodgers seems to enjoy playing head games with the media and team management and if he was going to leave GB it would have probably already happened. Maybe the same goes with Wilson at Seattle but he is younger and has time on his side but both of them got their SB wins but both of them probably should have had multiple SB wins as well. With the team and regular seasons GB have had in the past few seasons, not to at least get to the SB is certainly a black mark against Rodgers and Lafleur.

They probably thought they were fine with Jimmy but someone like Brady, Brees, Mahomes, Rodgers, Stafford, Burrow, or Herbert would have made that throw. Then throw in Gronk with Brady and the weapons already there and that team would have been insane. Anyone that saw his last Patriots season and thought it was mostly him was listening to the media. I still say their biggest implosion was Brown and Gordon doing their thing and not replacing Gronk with the OL and Devlin getting injured. That’s a lot to overcome. They were everyone’s favorite after week 2.

They just have to get hot at one point of time.
Rodgers playoff stats speak for themselves. Even against a mediocre jimmy G, Rodgers still couldn't get it done. Add to that the appalling GB special teams performance and some good 49ers defense, and that was enough. But GB had home ground advantage plus a bye. Everything was in their favor while the 49ers were playing sudden death for weeks just to make the playoffs. No wonder the GB fans looked stunned at the finish..........

Just need to get hot. Key in point Flacco and Eli.
Though I will say, I think Peyton on his last year in Denver would she s won that game against the Niners as he would have thrown to his open receivers. Which is a big reason they lost. GB might benefit being the underdog a lot more then other teams. Rodgers is already a cocky person and being the favorite can bring false confidence.

Sad but the draft picks should net them talent that'll last more years than Russell, IMO. His ambition to be in management/ownership will no doubt be in the plans. Elway managed for awhile so why not?
Would not also be surprised that SEA changes some receivers, too.
OOPs! That was fast...and expected.

Per source, following the #Seahawks trading Russell Wilson to the #Broncos, they are also open for business on wide receiver Tyler Lockett. With plenty of teams needing WR help, he's a name to keep a close eye on.

That's some trade package from Denver !
Yes....it is; two 1st & two 2nd round picks plus Lock, Fant & Shelby Harris. Losing Fant is the big one as he's on the verge of becoming a premier TE in the league.

It's crazy here in Denver once this trade became official. The airwaves are full of euphoric, jubilant fans who are already celebrating an anticipated Lombardi trophy. I haven't seen it this way since the trade for Elway back in 1983. The Manning signing wasn't like this because there was some concern over his durability coming off that major neck surgery. But with Wilson, fans seem to think it's a foregone conclusion that the Broncos will get their 3rd SB title in franchise history this season. I'll wait see & I think taking the division from KC & going deep into the playoffs would be a good start. But according to this fan base, it would seem that anything short of a SB victory will be considered a failure. We shall see...

So they are hoping to be good in five years, instead of being good for the next five years?

SB ? I don't see it.
It is great though if this ensures the Seahawks will be bad for a while. Like to watch them lose.
