I've heard three talking heads now say that BB isn't hgetting a job because of his personality. That's the easy way out and a way to fill hours of air time IMO. I think that BB isn't getting a job because he wants to have 100% control over everything football related (GM and coach). I don't think that any owners are interested in that model (including Craft).

Everyone here knows that I am a SEA fan so do I want BB to be the coach? Not really, but I'd take hime over a lot of other coaches. Do I want him to be the GM and coach? Absolutely not.

I'm really not sure what to think about Morris getting the ATL job. He wasn't good enough for the job a few years ago when he was there, but now sudddenly he is? Has he really gained anything that will make him that much different than he was?

Which coordinator on the final four teams is going to be the new HC in DC? Or is Beiniemy going to get the nod? One SEA blogger indicated that EB is a top candidate for OC AND maybe HC in SEA...HMMM.

Brett Favre had a different thought, saying there is this mindset among owners a bit like Moneyball, but also to get new, shiny things, "young groovy guys" he said. Bill is old and crotchety. Favre said the days of coaches like him, Bill Parcells, Mike Ditka, Forrest Gregg and Nick Saban are over. Maybe he's right to some degree. But there have been plenty of "young" coaches who failed, same with coordinators promoted to HC, with some failing miserably. Everyone thinks they are getting the next Sean McVey, but in reality, many end up with a Rod Marinelli, Lane Kiffen, Jim Mora Jr., Mike Nolan, Freddie Kitchens, etc.

21-38 history as a HC. This is Josh McDaniels territory.

There has to be something in Atlanta that makes Arthur Blank comfortable with Morris, because Blank also restructured things to where everyone reports to him.

Fortunately for Seattle John Schneider is the important remaining talent and GM. That is until Jody's pack o friends drive him out but that seems unlikely and he should keep that role.
Deferring to Schneider would go a long way to reassure the players they want to keep. The players know who had the brains and faith to draft and trade for each guy. What they'll need is an adult in charge as HC.

Hopefully they'll get that solved soon and let the OC/DC questions get answered with the HC. I like Bieniemy's reported work ethic but don't know much else about his coaching. He was a spartan warrior as a player.

No...I didn't read the article. I figured it was about some talking head whining about bad calls because maybe the teams he's betting on are the losing end because of these calls. Lol

On those penalties that are supposedly called more by Shawn Smith - there shouldn't be any controversy over "illegal formation" & "illegal shift penalties." Those, for example like two many men on the field, are black & white - you either have the penalty  or you don't. The roughing the passer is definitely controversial because it's not applied uniformily across the board. I've seen QBs drilled to the ground way after the pass was thrown & no penalty was called. Conversely, I've witnessed QBs get a "love tap" & flop to the ground getting a roughing penalty. Lol. I would imagine, though, an  AI system in the future could clean that up?

I'm unfamiliar with what Blandino did with the XFL. Since you're impressed with that system, and endorse it, I'll have to read up on it.

Patriots inability to make hits in the draft in recent times, says it all about coaches who are also GM's. Even his revolving door on some of the one year contracts and seeing those payers go elsewhere and play well are questionable sometimes but of course you have cap issues as well but the Patriots are not exactly loaded up with stars at the moment !

49ers brought across Hargrave from the Eagles this season for a big contract and it's hurt their defense with losing a lot of good role players. pretty sure they won't bring Chase Young back next season especially with the money he will want. Washington probably made a good move there as part of their rebuilding. Think Young will be gone the same way, the Rams had Vonn Miller for a year, he got to a SB then moved on. Young will hope for the same.

You would have thought Baalke would have thought this was a possibility before Lawerence started getting hurt? By, you know, watching football games and seeing all the hurt QBs for the last several years maybe?

One of you (JM Dirt? Shadow?) a year or two ago called Baalke a survivor. Spot on assessment. Definitely true. Trent seems to do just enough, say just the right things, to keep a job.

Good point. Because Lawrence is their key for success. As goes Lawrence...so goes the Jags. They were 6-2 & looking good before those injuries hit & the team took a nose dive. And I think you pointed out there was a game or two that Lawrence was so bad that he should have sat & it would have been better to go with the backup under those circumstances.

I wonder if Baalke is going to draft one of these top linemen projected to go in the 1st rd? There are five real good ones; Alt (ND), Fashanu (PSU), Latham (AL), Fuaga (OSU) & Mims (GA). Alt & Fashanu are projected top-15 picks. And these guys are all at least 6'6" & 317 lbs! They have great pass blocking skills & can step in day 1 as a starter. Baalke might have to trade up to get Alt or Fashanu (they currently have the 17th pick).

Btw, that wasn't me that called Baalke a survivor - either JM or Shadow.

I did some digging, it was after the disaster of Urban Meyer, and I now think Movingtarget get the credit for the assessment, though I couldn't find a specific post. I also found a really old link in the discussion that mentions Baalke's ability to "survive". Here it is, if you have time to waste reading it.

Talk is now that Bill Belicheck will be on TV next season, not coaching. I'm struggling to envision how this will look, and sound. :nomouth:

Probably some rain and breeze in Baltimore, but this doesn't look like it will affect either team that much. They might run a little more, that's about it. The Ravens aren't the blitzing team they were a few years ago, and when they do, it's often disguised just sending one guy, but Mahomes has a long history of burning teams that blitz, though when he's pressured enough (SB against Tampa, loss to Cincy 2 years ago) with just 4-5 guys, he can struggle...at times. I don't expect KC to try to blitz Baltimore, at all, but spy Lamar as best as they can.

As to injuries, with Kansas City I think it's a minor issue with Thune, Moore and Nnadi out. Not good, but not gamebreaking. Moore has missed games late anyway. I think a bigger concern is how well safety Mike Edwards, and LB Willie Gay play. Gay especially as he's their cover LB, meaning he'll spend time covering Mark Andrews, and likely "spy" for Lamar.

On the Baltimore side, Marlon Humphrey is "questionable" if he can't play this is not good news for Baltimore as he's a coverage magnet, especially in man defense. He missed a few games and they played fine without him, but he's a multi-time pro bowl CB the Ravens think so highly of they gave him a huge contract two years ago, and he's obviously delivered.

In the NFC, with Detroit I think having guard Jonah Jackson out might hurt, especially if Detroit falls behind. Why? It's "easier" to run block than pass block. Detroit will thus miss Jackson less if they establish a run game early, and often. Interestingly the Lions have rookie QB, Hendon Hooker, who is 3rd string and never played a down in the NFL (including preseason) as out after losing a tooth!

San Francisco doesn't even have Deebo Samuel on it's questionable list. So that's good news. Kalia Davis is not a starters, mostly special teams, and out. Oren Burks is their least known LB who is questionable. The only big name player from this season the 49ers are missing is of course Talanoa Hufanga, who went down with an ACL tear. Ja'Air Brown filled in pretty well, Logan Ryan wasn't very good against GB though.

I'll take both home teams. For KC to win Mahomes needs to play lights out (possible!), and if Jackson gets frustrated, especially late, by KC's defense, and or Baltimore makes mistakes.

I just think SF has too many tools for Detroit, and the Lions will give up too many big plays. If they can run the ball, a lot, and prevent McCaffery, plus Purdy, from getting into a groove, it will help their chances for sure. Late mistakes, penalties, missed FGs could turn either game, really.

Considering the 49ers dragged Logan Ryan off a cruise ship and he spent the return journey to dock in the ship's gym, he ain't doing too bad ! He was signed as a last resort and sat on the practice squad a for a while, like two weeks !

As bad as the 49ers special teams are and they often are, whenever they play GB in the playoffs, they are even worse ! Their kicker has missed a lot of kicks and the GB coach said he usually closed his eyes and prayed but as a rookie kicker they remain committed to him !
