Yessiree. Congrats to KC & SF. Especially good to see SF give GB a beat down as I expected! TEN made it a dog fight for most of the first half, so congrats to that effort, but KC just too much for TEN to overcome, especially once KC got up several scores and TEN got to the point of having to abandon the run game.

Of the 4 teams that played today, I think we ended up with the best possible, more interesting Superbowl matchup. So, really happy for that.

Niners run game couldn't be stopped, Mostert was a handful and Deebo also made some good runs. If anything GB's first half was worse than their last meeting in week 12. Rodgers threw a few nice balls in the 3rd quarter but too little too late. Vikings defense was actually better against the Niners. Makes for an interesting contrast for the SB. Looks like the Niners won't have Coleman but they still have Breida, Mostert and Jeff Wilson jnr. GB seemed clueless aginst the run and run blocking of the Niners while it took them too long to get some offense working. 49ers chewed up the clock as expected. Kittle had one catch, Sanders and Bourne didn't touch the ball. Sherman played well as did the Niners front as usual. Cue some serious media bashing now for Rodgers and missed opportunities.

Mahomes an "amazing athlete" is an understatement! He's the sole reason why KC is going back to the SB after a 50 yr hiatus (back when Len Dawson was their franchise QB).

Magnificent game for the Gunslinger: 294 yds passing & 3 TD strikes, the team's leading rusher with 54 yds and that incredible 27 yd TD run that you said "was the game." Mahomes reminds me of a young John Elway - very mobile who can run out of the pocket and the best arm in the business. And credit Reid who has a great working relationship with him and has been instrumental in his development.

What an investment KC made in trading away the house moving up in the draft to get him. In just his first two years as the starter, he takes the team to the SB! In all those previous years none of the KC QBs could do it (Smith, Cassel, Green, DeBerg, Bono, Blackledge and even Montana!). And just think how fortuitous Mahomes was back when he injured his knee in week #7 with what could have been nothing short of disastrous had it been serious.

Get the right QB and head coach and that combination can be a game changer for a team.

And Mahomes is now the 5th youngest QB to start in a SB:

I think most people would have been beaten on the play, he is just too fast. Great throw also by Rodgers.

Not a shocker and expected given the fact that Eli said it was "no fun" sitting the bench behind Jones. I doubt any team was willing take him on as their starter as opposed to a backup role.

The 40 yard PI penalty is 'correct' as the rule is written (I guess), but as has been discussed adnauseam, 40 yard penalties, especially on an under-thrown ball that had <1% chance of being caught is not good for the game...

Which is why I support what Mike Pereira has said several times, defensive PI needs to be turned into a 15 yards and an automatic first down penalty, not a spot foul. The arguments about this have gone around and round. If the NFL is worried about it going back to the 60's, they could make a "flagrant" variation where they make it a spot foul, but plays like you are describing are true gifts.

I would agree. Though I think we really missed out seeing KC go to Baltimore. Such a game would have been a lot of fun.

When I was a teenager I was living on the West coast and at some point I realized there was a certain bias that existed in sports commentators, not just the pundits and opinion writers. I mostly noticed it coming from New York, towards the Yankees in specific, but also the Giants, Jets, even Mets and so on. After all a lot of the media center is in and around NYC. But it happened in LA, elsewhere as well. You see and hear it in "homer" local broadcasts, obviously, but that is a little different. It would be silly to say it's completely biased all the time like homers, but at the same time, it's a lot to expect of someone to be completely unbiased.

I too worry that somehow the SF defense will "solve" much of the KC offense, especially if they jump out to a lead (like Hou and Ten did) and not botch the game, while grinding the ball away and winning fairly easily. Apparently in the Sea-Den SB the Seahawks pretty much figured out the Broncos plays, but they were going to win anyway it was such a blowout. I don't see that. But the comparison you make crossed my mind, if not that game. Put another way, I could see a 42-19 SF win, but not the other way around for some reason, where Mahomes makes great plays, piles up some yards, but KC can't string drives together or get into the end zone enough. I'm hoping though for a 40-39 game that comes down to the last play.

After watching the skills competition (which IMO is the only part of All-Star weekend worth bothering with) I remember again why I hadn't watched it the last few years. They changed up a lot of the competitions and it's just not as fun to watch as it used to be. (Same goes for the NHL All-Star skills competition).

IF these reports are true, I don't get why the apparently "religious" Benson(s) covered up for sex criminals instead of helping to expose them to oust them from their church positions. What happened to doing the right thing? They will get their dance, and it's "innocent until proven guilty" (or should be). But if guilty, I hope the NFL forces Benson to sell to someone or some group with no ties to the Benson family.

Eli- 117-117, comp% 60, TD/Int 366/244, yards 57K, 2 SB
Peyton- 186-79, comp% 65, TD/Int 539/251, yards 72K, 2 SB

That being said, its a team game, and stats only tell part of the story, but that and 'popularity' determine HoF votes.

A .500 QB in the HoF?! There are a few (like Joe N) who actually have losing records, but?! And at least Plunkett with 2 SBs who isn't in (his carreer was a little 'nontraditional').

Many would argue that Peyton only got his second SB because of the DEN D, basically true, but they wouldn't have been in the SB without him so...

I'll let one of the stat guys make a better presentation than I just did.

If anything he'll get in as a Manning, 2 Super Bowls, and top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns. He definitely won't be first ballot so who knows how long it'll take to get there.

My post above also got me thinking about the criticism that that Jimmy G is getting. SF wouldn't be in the SB without him IMO.

He had a solid year and played within the scheme of the team. 70% completion, 4,000 yards, 27 TDs on a run team .

For comparison Brees had 74%, 3,000 yards, 27 TDs (DB only had 4 ints to JGs 13 though).

In contrast, Dak 65%, 5,000 yards, 30 TDs (11 int), but frequently played outside of the system.
