Wonder if the Raiders would be interested in Darnold ? The Vikings are not going to tag him but said they would like to re-sign him. Can't see them getting Russell Wilson. Surely they will dive into the draft again for another QB as well but it seems to be a below average draft this year for that position according to the experts. The shortage of starting QB's in free agency plus the draft forecast will work in Darnold's favour you would think and the best back ups still out there. Rams want to keep Jimmy G but he might get better offers. Falcons are keeping Cousins for one more season it seems. Not sure who would want Rodgers, some GM's will certainly be wary, maybe at the right price but he's clearly not the player he was nor is Russell Wilson or Cousins it seems. Maybe Daniel Jones will get some interest.

Joey Bosa released by the Chargers. This is not a surprise because while he was good, he wasn't as good as his money, and has dealt with injuries. This frees up a whopping $25m against their cap.

My gut is the Raiders are going to try to sign Darnold. Maybe to a 3-year deal. But they also have other players on D they want to re-sign (Spillane, Moehrig and Hobbs) and that will also chew into their cap quickly. Plus they have other spots they need to fill. They just picked up Alex Cappa from the Bengals, but he's going to be a platoon player, and near the end of his career. This all will leave very little room to sign someone like Metcalf. There's only so much the draft can offer them, and other teams.

Eagles signed Zach Baun to a 3-year $51m deal!

Anyone who questions the impact of the Super Bowl and Eagle DL, needs to look no further than the Cowboys, who just paid DT Osa Odighizuwa (who?! A decent DT taken in the 3rd round a few years back who gets about three sacks a year and has never even made the pro bowl) a whopping $20m a year for four years. Even he said it didn't feel real.

A Raider beat writer said an insider for the team said they felt with how the salary cap is growing, the team got a good deal on Crosby!? Meaning (in their minds at least) an elite edge rusher will be making $40m a year in just a couple years?!?

Bills are currently slightly over the cap. But once they release Von Miller I think it will free money up. But they also need help at DT, and DE. Maybe they can just cut a couple other guys and offer Eagles' DE Josh Sweat $35m a year to join them?!

Charles Davis predicts Ward, Sanders and now Dart will go 1-2-3 in the upcoming draft! I'm surprised he didn't just go ahead and add Ewers to make it a 1-2-3-4! This just a couple days after some pundits were saying Sanders would drop to round 2 for being too brash. Even though he hasn't thrown a single pass at a pro day or for teams yet.

I''m hoping the 49ers stay away from Joey Bosa. The contracts for serviceable O line players these days are over the top. Even elite RB's don't get as much save for CMC and Barkley. Cowboys restructured Dak and Lamb to free up a good amount of cap space. Two good trades by the Bears to strengthen their O line as their QB was the most sacked in the league by a long way. Thuney should be good for them. 49ers are tipped to lose Hufanga, Banks, Ward and possibly Greenlaw. Feliciano has retired, Deebo traded, and Hargrave expected to be released. Kittle expected to be extended and the Purdy negotiations have started.

Looks like Hargrave will be cut by the 49ers, who really are looking to a major rebuild. Lynch said the team needed to get younger, and he wasn't lying. My gut is SF came to the realization that their year to win it all with the players they have, was last season. And the bulk of the players they have (like those you listed) aren't going to take them to future winning seasons. As such, I think it would be a mistake to sign Joey. A sentimental move, in a league/business that is ruthless.

Is SF low balling Purdy? I personally look at these numbers and wouldn't read too much into it. I think it makes sense for both sides to sign a long-term team friendly deal that increases as the cap does. Or a deal with slightly lower cash, and more guaranteed money, with an open mind on having the contract re-negotiated every other year or so as needed. As long as the 49ers don't do what the Browns did with Watson, it could work out for all parties.

Never heard of Charles Davis - I had to look him up. It's possible Ward & Sanders go 1 & 2 if Tennessee decides to move on from Willis & Cleveland wants to move on from Watson. The NFL Draft/Combine Prospect Profile (IMO, the best site) has both Ward & Sanders at 6.3 (Plus Starters). NFL Draft Buzz has both Ward & Sanders as top-10 OA picks with Ward QB1.

Dart, OTOH, has a prospect profile of only 6.1 ("Good Backup With The Potential To Develope Into Starter"). NFL Draft Buzz has Dart as QB3 & an early 2nd rd pick. Though Dart has a strong NFL caliber arm, he isn't as accurate as Ward & Sanders. However, he's the better runner having rushed for over 1500 yds (4.0 avg) in 41 starts at Ole Miss.

I think Dart is a solid 2nd rounder to be drafted as a team's franchise QB (Favre, Brees, Hurts, Dalton, Stabler all came from the 2nd rd). The only other QBs I see pushing him for QB3 would be Milroe & Ewers - with Milroe the best dual-threat QB in this year's class. The other guys at the combine are probably middle to late round selections with Shough topping that list.

There's no "wants to" move on. They have moved on, he's finished, even if they aren't saying it. 2nd Achilles rupture in a year, and his baggage, he'll already miss this entire upcoming season, and I'm predicting never play another down in the NFL again. He's not only bad, he's so radioactive no other team will touch him.

I have a real concern with Milroe's passing. I never saw him throw NFL level passes at Alabama, despite the strong arm (granted, I didn't watch every single game, or study film), and he was really inaccurate at the Combine.

Shough throws a really nice looking NFL ball. But both injuries, and maybe his age, will count against him. Someone will take him though because of his arm.

Didn't they say that about Hurts? Hurts was drafted late 2nd & started off in preseason as the 3rd string QB, working his way to the backup after the start of the season and eventually starting the last 4 games of his rookie season when Wentz was benched. And of course, the rest is history.

Milroe can effectively pass. He had a much better season throwing the ball his junior year at Bama under OC Tommy Rees. His senior year Saban retired & DeBoer came in with a new OC. Milroe is a Hurts 2.0. They are identical in size, speed, agility & arm talent. Coincidentally, they both have a prospect rating of 6.14 ("Good Backup With The Potential To Develope Into Starter"). Is that crazy or what?

You're spot on with Shough. Man, can he throw the ball! - take a look at some of his highlights at Louisville. The knock on him was his major injuries where in five years he played only one full season healthy and that was last year at Louisville. And with that major leg fracture, there were concerns about his mobility & agility. But he seemed to put that to rest with his showing in the 40 & the agility drills at the Combine. You're absolutely right - some team is going to grab him because of his arm.

I'll repeat this over and over: I'll be shocked if Watson ever plays another down in the NFL. The only team it might, maybe happen with is the 2026 Browns, if they still have him on the roster for some reason. He's otherwise finished.

The Browns are only restructuring because he never, ever came close to living up to that ridiculous contract they gave him in the first place, so they have done all they can to continually wipe the egg off their face and kicking the can down the road as the cap slowly grows, with Watson's contract being an old maid. An old maid with an albatross around her neck. They can talk all they like about him being a Brown, hoping he heals. But it's a joke at this point. They are only trying to save their own face, if they can, before finally cutting him, and getting him to fade into the rear view window as fast as possible. This is like the 4th or 5th time they have restructured it, and Watson doesn't care because he gets every penny no matter what happens.

Worst trade in NFL history, worst contract in NFL history. And one of the most rotten players in NFL history.

Yes the worst ever and I think the 49ers trade up in the draft for Lance is probably top 10, especially with the loss of multiple first round picks.

It's going to be interesting to see who (if anyone) actually signs Tre Lance. I almost feel for the guy, because not only did he do almost nothing for the 49ers after they gave up all those picks, it's now looking like Dallas got hosed giving up a 4th round pick so SF for Lance. He was active for just four games in two seasons. Almost invisible as an emergency QB, after looking lost in the pre-season against guys who didn't even make teams. Zero chance Dallas re-signs him. Stephen Jones has said they will draft someone, likely mid-rounds, to sit behind Dak and learn. That's how little they think of him. He didn't flatly say it, but Lance is done there.

Lance was set up as a failure to begin with. For one, coming from a smaller school with limited playing time, he was way overdrafted at #3 OA which inherently comes with too many expectations - one being immediate success. And with his rocket arm & impressive athleticism, scouts hyped him up to no end & the 49ers bought it.

Many people forget that he only played one full season with only 17 total starts at FCS North Dakota St (by comparison Daniels & Nix played 5 seasons of Power-5 college ball with 55 & 61 starts, respectively).

Though the one season for Lance at NDSU was outstanding - he threw for almost 3000 yds, rushed for 1100 & set NCAA record for most passing attempts without an interception (he finished with 28 TD passes & no picks) - there would be no way he's ready to step right into the NFL & make an immediate impact. With just one season at a FCS-level school? Plus the major ankle injury that caused him to miss his entire second season further derailed any attempt at his development.

And now it looks like Dallas had no real plan for development either. Two years & no measurable improvement:

Maybe the 9ers aren't sold on him? Perhaps he's not mobile enough to provide the dual-threat running capability that QBs need to be good in this league?

It's not just arm talent alone anymore, but the QB has got to be able to effectively run the ball. I pointed this out before: 3 out of the 4 QBs in the conference championship games this past season were pure dual-threat QBs with the fourth having the capability of scrambling & effectively running. This is the future of the NFL QB.

Another speculation with Purdy may be that SF doesn't feel it's worth paying him $50m plus a year. In fact, they can just pay him his $5m this season, then franchise him next season (when he will get $45m or so) if they want, to buy them time.

Apparently before the Raiders extended Crosby, the Seahawks tried to make a trade: Geno, plus DK, plus a draft pick, for Maxx Crosby. The Raiders said no.

Seattle looks like they are headed to a total rebuild. They will compete with SF for the cellar next year is my guess.

What's your take on the Smith trade? There will be no rebuilding phase & I'm assuming Carroll feels he can contend right away for a division title/playoffs with this move? So, is it full-throttle with Geno at the helm? Raider football might become meaningful again?

This puts the AFC West in a hot QB division. You have the best QB in the league, Herbert, who I'll admit is playing good football & is a top 10 QB, an up & coming Bo Nix, and now Smith - an above-average veteran with probably some good years left.

This division is going to get real interesting with this kind of QB talent.
