Agree with what you say. Pre season is time to audition another sub-starter for that role and ease Patrick into it. For what it's worth: Chiefs defensive upgrades could go a long way taking off some pressure off the situation. Kenneth Walker will provide some early season challenges for any defense as long as Kelce can play like he should and a little O-line time emerges.Like I said before, I don’t think Mahomes will play well due to the injury and the team around him. If he returns to former or even 75% of his previous running ability by next season that would be a miracle. Otherwise they’d be lucky to get to 10 wins. I think in two seasons with this one working on his pocket passing and progression he’ll be better. I just hope he doesn’t have a worse injury. The team already doesn’t run some plays due to him getting on that qb sneak. It’ll be bad if they condense their playbook even further. That’s why I thought getting Taysom Hill would be a good idea.
On what the Chiefs think it’s a 50/50. Either they have compete faith that Mahomes can recover and take them on a deep playoff run or they know there will be issues and are getting more offensive support in order to take pressure off him.
His quick surgery schedule hopefully will help and likely possible due to minimal swelling. The source of the ACL is part of the recovery, though. If they grafted some of his own hamstring material the recovery can be quicker and not as subject to rejection concerns. If those tendons are retrievable without grafts; so much the better. The way he was limping for the last few games; those scenarios seem far fetched.I posted before about guys who came back when, after ACL surgery, and how the average for an athlete is 9 months (about 39 weeks). Which would mean Mahomes would be playing maybe week 2. Adrian Peterson came back after some 32 weeks and had a fantastic season. Jerry Rice tried to come back after 15 weeks and promptly broke his knee cap (later admitting it was a big mistake coming back so soon). Then of course there was RGIII with a partially torn ACL, Washington put him out there, and against Seattle his knee was completely trashed and his career over after a sensational rookie year. But most guys aren't the same until a year after the surgery, or longer, even if they don't get hurt again.
My gut tells me Mahomes plays week 1 though. There were debates they rushed him into surgery (about 24 hours after the injury), and maybe into rehab (about 3 days later). He also didn't tear just his ACL, but LCL as well. Searches tell me there are debates on all this (of course). To me though the Chiefs seem to realize there isn't this huge window of numerous years left, and are sort of in a win-now mode. Witnessed by Kelce coming back for one more season, and KC paying him a whopping $12m. So if Mahomes can play at all week 1 and they don't think it will lead to another injury, they'll play him.
Sure he hasn't lived up to the #1 OA pick but neither has Winston, Murray, Mayfield or Lawrence. And if we use the metric as at least getting to the SB for the expectations of a #1 OA pick, only Stafford, Burrow & Goff have achieved that mark out of the current #1's in the league (it's too early of course to judge Williams & Ward, though Williams is looking promising with a playoff win just in his 2nd yr of starting).I can absolutely see Carolina moving on after Young if he doesn't win a playoff game this coming season. Current GM and HC weren't the ones drafting him. Granted, David Tepper is in charge of everything there and he wanted Bryce, but still, I can see this. Bryce is better than his rookie year, but he's not lived up to the #1 overall pick, plus draft picks they gave up for him (and best WR at the time).
It's probably time for the Chiefs to turn him into more of a pocket passer. There's some research on this that shows post-ACL surgery QBs are not running as much (or for as many yards) taking more sacks & getting rid of the ball quicker to avoid a hit, which is turned into more turnovers.Like I said before, I don’t think Mahomes will play well due to the injury and the team around him. Yeah the Greenlaw injury in the SB was horrible timing for the 49ers. He was all over the Chiefs in the first half.I question if Greenlaw has, or ever will fully heal from his achilles tear. Remember, he was one the very best coverage LBs in the NFL before that. And after he got hurt in that SB, Reid and Mahomes knew where to attack. In fact Greenlaw would have been covering Hardman on that last TD.
No more "Bazooka Joe?"

No, he says his nickname is actually "Rocket Joe" & prefers to be called such:I question if Greenlaw has, or ever will fully heal from his achilles tear. Not only accuracy problems but he throws the ball too hard on short & intermediate routes making catching difficult (Milton says no but teammates have said otherwise). All Milton can do now is win the backup job putting him in a position to play if something happens to Dak.That's no fun though. Rocket Joe? There's no reference. Bazooka Joe has a great historical reference. Rocket Joe...Lame. Milton's issue is the same as those other "rocket" guys I named: Boller, Druckenmiller, etc.: Poor accuracy. The Jim Kelly quote will never get old: "I can throw the ball 70 yards in the air, but it doesn't matter if I can't hit the broad side of a barn."
Ben Johnson is someone who had high praise for Howell.
I have ESPN primarily for their college games & MNF. They start off early in the morning with "College Game Day" & run several games throughout the day culminating with a late nightcap game. I also like their MLB Sunday night games that start in April & run through Sept. I get ESPN1, ESPN2 & ESPN+ as part of a "Sling TV" package that's reasonably priced at $38.00 a month. I have Prime for TNF & Peacock for SNF & Epic Cycling (TDF, Vuelta, spring classics, etc). The solution used to be to buy the NFL package, then just stream it from your phone (or tablet) to your TV. Even the smaller package got you broadcast games, and RedZone. I don't know the latest but I believe the NFL has sold this to ESPN, and from what I can gather ESPN wants you to buy a full package of their crap, which I refuse to do. There's almost nothing on ESPN I want to watch.
Good move for the Chiefs since their QB room wasn't looking so good with Minshew's departure to the Cardinals (they were left with Oladukun & Haener).Looks like Chiefs are prepping for Mahomes to either not start the first few weeks, reinjures, or has some struggles. Better than the rumor of them looking at Wilson.
NFL+ - RedZone, plus all national broadcast games , plus replays of all games (full game, condensed game, coaches film), is $49 for the entire year. Or, it was. Who knows now with ESPN buying it. If they shove me into a package like that, there is zero chance I'm buying. I'll look for pirate feeds.I get ESPN1, ESPN2 & ESPN+ as part of a "Sling TV" package that's reasonably priced at $38.00 a month.
