Is it a team preference or individual preference to wear or not to wear one's earned National Champion's Jersey. Some wore their jerseys briefly, while others for a more prolonged time in this year's tour. Is there a policy at all? For example, Contador started out wearing his early on, but stopped after the first few days, long before he was awarded any other jersey.

Contadors jersey was a national TT one and can therefore only be worn in TT's. He wore it in both ITT's and the TTT. A national RR jersey such a Pipo's must be worn in all RR's unless you have a prize jersey. All national and prize jerseys are compulsory.

ummm, rider's wear their national jersey at all times, the team just get a sy in how it's designed. Contador wore the Spanish TT champs jersey in the ITT"s and the TTT, he's not the road champs so he wore normal kit for road stages, conversely, Cancellerra wore normal kit for the TT's but his Swiss jersey every other stage he wasn't in yellow.

The controversy this year was Pozatto's national kit didn't have enough green it to please the Italian federation. Hence, the white jersey with tri-color stripes (also considered not Italian enough by the italian fed) and then the lollipop man outfit (considered heinous by the Italian fed, so they let him put on jersey number 2 again without complaining).
