I make the claim, and will continue to make it, that get rid of the stupid white block on the back, and Sky's is quite a nice jersey.

However, the point is, it doesn't matter if you're linked to design or not, design is purely subjective. Sky's design is very clean and corporate. To many those adjectives can be attached to words like "Stylish" but to others they can be attached to words like "dull". Simple may be very nice to the designer's eyes, but cycling fans have long been trained on multiple sponsors, busy designs and recognisable colours so that these clean, simple designs seem very empty and even boring.

Design is about reconciling the practical aspects of what you're working with - in this case cyclign jerseys - with the stated aims of the client - in this case cycling teams and their sponsors - in order to best achieve the correct impression that they want to give off.

These designers may be doing a fantastic job of the design based on what they're being asked to do. Most of them undoubtedly are - but it's about finding answers to the questions. A lot of us simply think that the designers are being asked the wrong questions, which is resulting in a lot of kits which may be classy, stylish even in some cases, but are neither memorable nor instantly recognisable, which are things that WE think should be part of the questions.
A+ Well spoken! As I've looked through this thread I've tried to restrain myself from having too much input because I realize the incredible subjectivity of this topic. And you're right. Designer credentials don't mean much of anything here, Because, as the saying goes: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The fashion industry has subjected us to many a miserable fad, style, or design that I'm sure they thought was the next big thing, only to find, that not many people liked it at all. And so, we are in the midst of watching the coming season's cycling fashions roll out. And plain and simple, we're going to like some, and we're going to dread others. That's just the way it goes. But hey, don't anybody hold back their opinions, please.:D

"Movistar" has nothing to do with movies, but with "móvil", which is spanish for mobile.
Okay, you win! But the thing started with a critique that was posted on http://cyclistsarenotrockstars.blogspot.com/2011/01/number-911.html that said they were "guessing" that the stripe up the side of the Movistar jersey made reference to a movie reel. So, that was my attempt to help another poster out when he asked WTF, in regard to that critique. You've got to admit it does kind of look like a bit of film, no?

my language is good enough and I repeat HTC-Highroad and Team Sky are the best kits in years (and professionaly I'm linked to desing area).
Another outstanding design was first High Road kit from 2008 season.

BTW, my man. Just to show you how subjective this truly is. MY least favorite jersey this year is the htc kit. Look at this picture please.

Bib lines stand out almost as if they were meant to. And the vertical black, green and yellow stripes end abruptly, before the bottom of the jersey. As I've said before, Did the "designers" expect the boys to tuck their shirts in, properly?? This jersey is a wreck, IMO (even though I've been trying, I can't hold this one in) Only htc's champions jerseys look attractive. Too bad, I liked last years kit. But I get a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of this kit, this year, whether we like it or not!

I did see the connection between a movie reel & the jersey. I just thought someone who has a cycling blog should know there's no connection between movistar & 'moviestar' :D

Nice job! Team Movistar is going to be very visible from overhead. I'm liking their kit more and more, even though I would have preferred a different color arrangement. I just hope the National Champs jersey evolves. Thanks for the effort, well done.

I can't help, HTC-HIGH ROAD HAS DONE A RETRO-KIT WHICH IS FULL OF SUBTLE DESIGN AND METACOMMENTARY, IT IS RETHORIC AND GOES BACK TO THE GLORIOUS 70'S AND 80'S.

Thanks for this. There have been so many negative comments in this thread that they were even starting to get ME down about 2011's kit scene. But seeing them all lined up like that has convinced me that it's going to be a stellar year!

Two kits that have gotten worse this year, though: Radioshack (one of my favorite kits from 2010) and Quickstep.

The 2011 top standings for me are currently:

1 - Katusha
2 - De Rosa
3/4 - Lotto / Leopard

Others of note:

- Rock Werchter
- Vac
- Astana
- Movistar

I can't wait for the TdU so we can start judging them on the road! I think Leopard and Astana will rise in the forum's esteem when seen from above, the side, etc.

2011's kits

I think its safe to say that taste and preference runs the entire spectrum and it is interesting to read everyone's thoughts. It is indeed going to be a good year and it looks like most, if not all teams, recognize the importance of creating a unique look for the racing teams.

I contribute to the originally mentioned Cyclistsarenotrockstars blog and the voting is currently a tie between Radio Shack and Team Leopard Trek with Garmin Cervelo a close third......

htc highroad has a single vote.....

I should have added that Movistar ( no relation to actual motion pictures! ) has quite a few write in votes... Can't quite figure that one out.

I think what they meant to say was, (movie) film strip up the side, sort of like this:

film strip, with frame lines, up the side, minus the sprocket holes.

Yes, but they used the word movie reel which is the industry word for the same thing. No, matter what word they use it's still wrong.

Are off with a headstart getting an invite for Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. Prime suspects to bring in some great rusults for this fresh prince are Jurgen Van Goolen, Britton Hamish Haynes and Tom Vanbecelaere.

So are they the ones that picked up Pegasus' spot?

Hey DAOTEC, do you know anything about Asfra Flanders going Continental again? I raced for them last year but unfortunately don't keep in contact with anybody who knows, I remember there was a buzz about going pro again in '11.
