Oh, God. Now all it takes is VV to wear those [banned?] white long cuffed socks to match.

Could be worse. If helmets weren't mandatory he might decide to wear a Delgado bandana holding his hair implants

Maybe rubbing some Regaine onto those thinning out champ bands will help more than it did for his hair?

Hahaha. totally agree. They did something awful to the old elegant design just for the purpose of doing it. Now it's a plain ugly kit

Movistar's new kit is OK, I don't care too much anyway.
Valverde's new jersey however is a crime:

This is hilarious, hopefully there's more to it on the back.

No, there's not.

Poor Bala. Talk about mucking up a national jersey this one truly S*cks!!

Otherwise I like the Movi kit, it is pretty standard for them.

You mean with all the regulations there are in cycling, there isn't any saying the national champion has to wear a championship jersey?....this isn't a national champion jersey imo. It pretty much looks like those worn by former champions.

The Spanish Cycling federation approves the design, so blame them!

I remember Valverde in his 2008's champ jersey (right picture) was the only Caisse d'Espargne national champion who didn't go for the usual full-on yellow and red design (left) all the other riders wore? Simply has minimal yellow and red flashes on the standard Caisse d'Espargne jersey much like he's gone for again this year.

Personally, the last 'proper' looking Spanish Champions jersey was at QuickStep. Ironic that the design is more traditional at a non-spanish team!

AV not getting the fluoro champions' kit was more about a sponsor call that the team's signature rider wear something closer to the normal team kit. J-Rod, Rubinho, Guti and Luísle all got to wear the much more awesome kit (also Florent Brard got a similar carbon pattern French champions' kit). The Don would have preferred a more obvious national jersey, even if not as cornea-scorchingly awesome as the normal Caisse one.

However, since Caisse were replaced by Movistar as Abarcá's title sponsor, the champions' kits have been godawful. Even Gio's Italian kit was terrible, I thought the Italian fed would insist on a proper one after the Pozzato/Катюша debacle, and indeed his kit (and subsequently Rojas' Spanish kit) was not as bad as the usual Movistar national jerseys but it was still dreadful. It was about a 3/10 jersey if that.

Now, it looks like we're back to the minimalism. The stripes in the middle of an otherwise standard team jersey were bad but at least identifiable. This is up there with Big Mig's national jersey as nondescript. They've actually made their national champions' kits worse. It's almost a laudable achievement.

Edit: I've just re-read that post and I name no fewer than SEVEN Abarcá riders by nicknames, that's a bit over the top even for me.

Pozzato and his NC jerseys at Катюша is a great example, he had a few horrible jerseys, but you should always remember that he also had one jersey that was just pure awesomeness.

I liked the white one with the stripes better to be fair. Also the one with the [Kremlin?] silhouette.

I thought movistar's spanish stripes were fine. Not traditional, but pretty stylish. I can see why the sponsor wanted to change though, because movistars logo largely invisible compared to standard kit once reduce in size to fit with bands.

Exactly, it's a sponsor visibility issue, they want the big name rider to wear sponsor colors.
There's a long history of that with this team. See Induráin in 1992:

Thing is, will they also want to make the logo ''more visible'' in his jersey too?

Will we witness the next butchering of the Portuguese National jersey since Manuel Cardoso at Footon?

Doubt it. In the sponsor's eyes he's a nobody

Thing is; they got plenty of riders to show the Movistar logo. Why not allow the national champion of the team's home country to actually show that he's the national champion?
Or, as BigMac wrote; why not a full champion kit with the logo?
