If I am interpreting the new WADA list correctly, dextramethasone is no-longer a prohobitted substance. I have known several riders who take it, especially for long road races.

So: What is the reasonong behind de-listing glucocorticosteroids and do they have any performance enhancing benefit?

All glucocorticosteroids are prohibited when administered by oral, intravenous, intramuscular or rectal routes.

So with Dexamethasone being classified as a Glucocorticosteroid:>

Thanks for the clarification. I was referring to a line in the CyclingNew story:

"The following were taken off of the probhitied list: glucocorticosteroids by inhalation or administered by localised injection, as well as platelet-derived preparations, and salmeterol."

I actually did not see this article. Just read it. I guess that glucocorticosteroids ( contained in medications only) may only be taken of course by athletes for certain medical problems such as asthma, and the treatment of tendon, muscle, bone and joint injuries, for example. But they have to be administrated under medical supervision and require an official declaration of use, prior to administration. But the systemic use of glucocorticosteroids, such as Dexamethasone is prohibited.

I see no reason why glucocorticoids injected locally should not have a systemic effect.

Of course they will spread by venous and lymphatic vessels to the general circulation.

Regulation of the amounts of glucocorticoids allowed for injection seem prudent.
