Nibali wins the battle against Basso

Ryo Hazuki said:
and the giro it says

No, it says that Nibali's Giro participation will be decided after LBL. Basso is picking Nibali but still states that his own chances will depend on the weather conditions on the day of the Stelvio stage. If it's snowed there and the stage is rerouted, he doesn't see himself being able to put any distance between himself and his opponents.

good move my asz, nibali can't win giro even without michele and rujano.the thing is he won't even ride it.ivan just wants to hide himself from the number 1 favourite position for il giro that's all.he will be the captain but they will announce it very late.

you don't really believe that do you?? it's like the story with pellizotti's absence in 2010. they plan gt's a long time in before. not 1 or 2 weeks unless it's a helper or someone getting injured of lower level

oddly enough- I do believe Basso & Nibali riding together aiming at the same goal, seems to make them excel/glow & obtain better results than having them riding apart from one another. The problem here is that Basso is an aging Leader & his best days are fading, while Nibali is young & improving.

they should not be riding together as they couldn't be any different as riders. basso need a firce and hard mountainstage and every climb and very slow downhils. nibali is completely the opposite who needs a pace as slow as possible up the climbs and then hope to gain time in downhil

Their contrasts would seem to be more complimentary than conflicting. They fill in each other's weak areas such that they could sing "You complete me!" to each other! Basso on the surface seems to have no issues sharing the leadership at the Giro with Nibali and letting their legs decide who is the best.

If they both arrived at the Giro with the dual intent of winning the overall they would have to considered among the choices for projected Giro champion once it's over. Rujano is too inconsistent to be rated higher than Basso and Nibali, Scarponi's focusing on the Tour, Diluca is seemingly past his prime and Purito is going to be chasing stage wins.

And yet he came 3rd in 2 Giros which had quite a high pace up the mountains. Even managed to hang on to Contadors pace on Zoncolan.

But oh wait, I forgot, Nibali is a poor climber who by sheer fluke and luck and good fortune has miraculously managed to podium 2 gts and win a 3rd in the last 2 years.

Anyone know what Tour Cunego is targetting next year? Can't remember reading anything from him on this to date.

Nibs/Basso Vs Scarponi/Cunego at the Giro would be pretty cool:cool:

Cunego is doing the tour and not the giro again this year. Can't find the link but it was on cn a couple of weeks ago

He couldn't quite cope with Contador/Rujano on Etna this year* but it was still a pretty impressive controlled ride at pace. *Probably nobody else out there other than Andy could have.

You forgot that he got the 1st place on the CQ rankings in 2010 by sheer luck, or perhaps the system was flawed? Surely it can't have anything to do with him being a good rider.

I think it is quite possible that Nibali has a decent shot at the giro. I don't really know what riders are really targeting it this year, as that will probably be the most important factor

i think Nibali wants to win the giro first, then target tour in the future

Nibali should just target le Tour. He needs to forget the Giro if he wants to do a decent Tour.

The tour really doesn't suit either of them. Neither are good enough at ITTs and even on the up and down days they'll have to contend with RNT. On 2010 form I'd say Nibali Giro, Basso Tour, Nibali to ride the tour as support. On 2011 form I'd say both in top form for the GC at the Giro and both at the tour for stages and maybe getting lucky with 10+ minute break. I don't think we'll see Basso on 2010 form.

I would think that Basso and Nibali will ride all 3 GTs next year between them so I doubt they both will do a Giro/Tour double.
I'd like the idea of them meeting at La Vuelta, but not before.
Basso > Giro
Nibali > Tour
Basso, Nibali > Vuelta
