You are missing the point. Regardless of Benoot's age it's super hard to win solo if you're not a part of a strong team like Quick Step.
Terpstra was also strong in his young years but had no support at all at Milram

He wasn't.

2010: National Road Race, Sparkassen Giro Bochum (in front of riders like Greipel and Caethoven), 3rd at DDV, 6th in Oman (beating Greg Van Avermaet, Geraint Thomas, etc in a flat TT).

2009: 2nd at Ster Elektrotoer, 9th at Omloop (front group btw), 15th at E3 and 16th at Roubaix.

2008: 3rd at Bayern-Rundfahrt (beating Kirchen or Grabsch - a TT World Champion - in the crucial race against the clock), 12th at DDV and 14th at Ronde - 2nd group.

Terpstra was always involved at Milram. But QS gave him the support to shine.

He's much stronger now than he ever was at Milram.

Obviously with experience and also development. But he showed promise at Milram. Still, Roubaix 2014 wouldnt be possible without Boonen on his team. So Terpstra is (and always was) strong but at a weaker Team he couldve ended as a Vanmarcke-like rider.

Vanmarcke has never shown this kind of strength either. He's over-rated as hell.

Terpstra is the better rouleur, but Vanmarcke has a decent sprint, his problem is that there always seems to be someone faster than him in a selected groud.
Terpstra was always strong in the 11km Tour of Qatar ITTs that they did on roadbikes and even beat Cancellara and Wiggins once, he has a great engine.

After his recent performances I wondered why I was not more aware of him in ITTs, so I looked for those results and noticed that Qatar trend. Obviously he is rarely battling for GC position in time trials, so maybe has not gone all in, but if anything, I would have expected him to be a feature more in longer races against the clock, rather than that shorter effort.

Would roadbikes be the reason for his relative success in Qatar? If so, is that down to lack of training on a TT bike or what?

Probably, cause he obviously has the engine.

Terpstra never trains on TT bike probably. He could be good, but not on the top 3 level, so what's the point for him to do so
He has a medal from the TTT Worlds every year from 2012 to 2016. I’m sure he’s trained on a TT bike in the past.

In his Eneco Tour win he finished 18th in the TT, 21s behind Dennis, 18s behind Sagan, but only 1s slower than Tony Martin and Tom Dumoulin.

TTT is not ITT. Boonen also has a gold medal. Or Oss, Quinziato, ... all not known for ITTs.

I saw something on Twitter about some of Terpstra's wins:
  • 2014 Dwars door Vlaanderen: Solo win by 17sec.
  • 2014 Paris-Roubaix: Solo win by 20sec.
  • 2016 Le Samyn: Solo win by 19sec.
  • 2018 Le Samyn: Solo win by 24sec.
  • 2018 E3 Harelbeke: Solo win by 20sec.
  • 2018 Ronde Van Vlaanderen: Solo win by 12sec.

Does anyone ever bring him back? The only time I can remember where this strategy failed him was the 2015 Ronde, but I can't think of any times where Terpstra was caught close to the line or caught at all anytime other than immediately.

I remember Quebec 2013. Sagan killed himself to bring him back.

Was that the year Gesink outsprinted him and GVA? would explain much

Ah yes I forgot that race. It was Gesink over Vichot and GVA, back when I thought Vichot would soon dominate.

Just looked up the results on Cyclingnews and Terpstra held a 25sec advantage going into the bell lap.

Sep even more than Terpstra, who also has achievements outside the cobbles. He can on occasion do a good time trial, was able to win races like Eneco Tour, Tour de Wallonie or Qatar. Wallonie didn't even have a TT in 2015 by the way.

Some nice words from great Tom Boonen: "My top favorite for Paris-Roubaix is once again Niki Terpstra. I consider Niki as the only remaining 'pur sang' cobblestone specialist in this peloton."
Well, I can follow him there, but I'd add Stybar as well.
Styby is a bit more versatile. He is also made for hillier races such as Amstel, Strade and punchy stages in GTs. I'd put him in the Sagan/GVA-category.

Terpstra is one of the few pure cobblestone riders.

But I'm happy that all the pure rouleurs (Terpstra, Naesen and Vanmarcke) are riding Amstel Gold Race.

I hope that means early action again. The Ardennes classics are more beautiful when they ride them like a cobblestone race.

Mythic hills like Côte de La Redoute, Keutenberg and Eyserbosweg have been disrespected for too long.
