Nokon cables with internal routing

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with using the Nokon cable set-up on bikes with internal routing?

I'm interested in getting the Nokon cables because I think the tight bends they allow will tidy my bike up a bit, and of course there's the bling factor. But I'm a bit concerned the links won't fit into the internal channels through the frame, and/or it might be difficult to install, and/or the noise problems with the Nokon links might be worse and/or there might not be enough links in the kit to do internal routing.

Nokon installation was a PITA/expensive with normal cable routing, can only imagine the headache it would be with internal. Run away IMO.

You mean internal in that the housing goes internal as well? Geeezuz, stay away from Nokon, it is a pain in the rearend with external routing, let alone internal. Does nuthin, costs a bundle, comes in colors...ooooo

Not to mention the squeaking that inevitably rears its ugly head.

It's a very expensive system without any benefits compared to cheaper options (imo Yokozuna noticeably outperforms Nokon).

But by all means the OP should do what he wants; part of the fun of cycling is experimenting and learning what works/doesn't work well.

What! I do them all the time, have been since 2002. They work on all frame types even internal routed.

You do have to get the right parts to get it right but its very doable. Which frame make/model? Most people do it wrong and have a ton of slack making it look very bad, you need to tighten it up so the cables don't sag. Yes, you need to spend some time to get it super pimped out and not make it look like granny panty hose, but its worth it and the Nokon's last forever! Well you still need to keep an eye on the cables like regular housing, especially if you use the sleeve all the way as moisture builds up after time but some vents at the right spots help.

Thanks all for the replies, I must say I'll probably go with the consensus. It's a Felt B2 TT frame (2010), the cable housing does go all the way through the frame which I guess means the little links will also have to, it would be better if the links could be external only but combining two systems is probably a recipe for disaster. Are the "right parts" the normal cables as well as the extension kit? What do you mean by vents? I'm not really up for drilling holes in the frame....

First off don't drill anything! You should not need that. I'll go find the adapters, hold on.

I've used these before:

The BOT193-1.

but anything on that page might work as well, I don't know the size of the holes where the cables are routed in through

I might also consider the Mickey Adjusting Barrels:

just to keep the look the same, guess it depends on what color Nokon's you're using.

I don't think you should slide the Nokon housing beads down the holes though, you'll be fine with just the black sleeve and wire. I know you'll end up with a lot of beads but hey that's just what happens for your type of bike. I didn't find any pictures of where the front derailure cable exits near the seat tube, interested how that look like.
