The only (clutching ar straws) advantage i can see for JTB is he has been in this position before and has already won the World Cup. Otherwise its Laegreid's to lose.
I'd like to see Tiril win and tie the record. She has been wonderful. And it is a reward for sticking with it and working on her weaknesses after years of so much potential.

As for Wierer, that last shoot was horrific. Not sure I've seen anything worse than that in a long while.

Not sure I've ever seen someone miss 15 out of 20 in a race either before with Simon too, or for the best shot to be 16/20.

Normally you couldn't top 10 after missing 8 even on a snowmobile. I'd rather they cancelled it than have it in those conditions. Though it can be very funny.

They couldn't cancel any more after everyone had been hyped up to Sunday being the Great Decider of the crystal globe. Now everyone just has to deal with what they have got.

There was a relay in Oberhof a couple of years ago when Johannes Kühn arrived at standing in heavy fog and wind, and just unloaded his rifle as fast as possible, firing 8 shots in a vague approximation of where the targets where, because he felt that the 5 penalty loops would be quicker than trying to clear the targets.

He was wrong.

Wierer lost over 1 minute 50 seconds shooting and still missed 3. In this particular case shooting as fast as possible and missing everything would have been clearly faster.

Ya, I think between the shooting and the penalties Wierer ended up spending about 3 mins in the range. Just shooting and missing all 5 would have been a lot quicker. At worst she misses an extra 2 but spends 90 seconds or more less standing there.

I think it was more that once she'd stood there so long without shooting, she was committed to it, and she stuck it out long after the point after which it had become a disadvantage because by then, just firing without aiming would be perceived as worthless having already lost the minute or so before firing.

JTB takes the overall then. Looks like he stopped chasing for the win today once he knew where Laegreid was and also allows Tarjei to take the mass start competition.

It's a shame with covid this year as this weekend with the two of them battling in front of the crows at the Holmenkollen would have been amazing.

Well, just like yesterday the conditions became much calmer for the mens' race compared to women's.

And it took the last race of the season for SHL to finally NOT deliver in the shooting range any more. Still, despite loss an incredible season by a rookie and most wins (7) too.

For the second year in a row JTB barely scrapes the overall. Last season was understandable due to missed races, but he really (almost) made a mess of it this season. Should have been far easier given his ski speed.

To his brother though, considering he couldn't catch Latypov who's not fast, I reckon he lent off the ski speed tbh.

The Boe's always win this tight fights for the World Cup third year that happens. Curious to see if Johannes will focus more on the Olympics next season which could open the door to someone like Fillon Maillet or Laegreid if he keeps his shooting level.
In the women's Eckhoff will certainly be the favourite even if she focus on the Olympics with Olsbu and Wierer likely as their main rivals

Meanwhile 19 year old Rebecca Passler from Antholz won the Italian NC ahead of Vittozzi and Wierer. She recenly won 3 medals at the Junior WC in Obertilliach, she's te real deal and looks like a real talent for the future.

Does anyone know why South Tyrol's Matteo Tanel is only competing against the very best in Roller Skiing races? With him being from South Tyrol I should know more about him, but I don't. He only seems to compete in popular XC races during the winter.

The guy is beating athletes like Chervotkin and Spitsov in RS skating races and is one of the best in the world at it. He's also only 63kg and with the Italian team not being exactly stacked atm he could have been the one to fill the void left by Clara (another lightweight skating specialist from South Tyrol who held the Alpe Cermis record for a few years).

I just looked at the World Cup for the coming season and the Tour de Ski looks depressing, only one race that isn't a sprint or a short mass start race. At least having the World Cup final in Tyumen looks nice, fingers crossed for that one.

You're right, it does look like there are very few distance races on the menu... I'm just glad they haven't completely eradicated classic skiing yet. (I grew up watching most races being classic-style and there was a lot more distance skiing going on.)

Well, let's hope there at least will be some decent snow, I find next to no snow while watching skiing a rather depressing sight.

IT is Like FIS read our Thread and all our complaints and decided to do exactly the opposite of what WE Like and hoped for. That being Said, Ivdon't expect any big Stars to compete in the TDS, anyway. Last year was the final Proof that You can't bei at your best both in early January and February. Anyone who goes tovthe TDS Kills His Olympic chances. EVERYONE and their grandma will skip TDS.

That IS true indeed. Sadly that could very will be the case in the Olymics. The areas gets Close to Zero precipation in Winter. So it will likely be all machine snow in a brown landscape.

Only the Russians are probably bad enough to force some of their skiers to race the (horrible) Tour if they want to get selected for the Olympics...
Bolshunov will probably be allowed to skip the Tour, but I fear for someone like Ustiugov. Someone like Spitsov could probably gamble a bit and try to win the Tour de Ski.
