Dale deserves a ride if he's getting left out of the men's relay team.
I still think Tandrevold will do better where there is less pressure due to spare rounds.
I think if Knotten was fit, id probably put her in the single mixed but she's been sick. I don't think I'd put JTB in it, might as well put Stroemsheim in (assuming he doesn't race the individual), or else put Dale in if he's not doing the relay

Hettich-Walz has been overdue a podium for a while, she's been super consistent this year, like a kind of replacement Franziska Hildebrand. Grotian is basically the result of a project to clone Laura Dahlmeier. The shooting from the Germans today has been incredible. 2 misses between the four of them, and both of them by the best biathlete on the team. The Norwegians by contrast have been awful. Arnekleiv has been way below her level, Lien and Tandrevold have forgotten how to shoot standing up, and Skogan has forgotten how to ski OR shoot and has been getting steadily worse since December.

I think Simon ran out of gas there, she lost time to Vittozzi on the final lap. I was all prepared for a nailbiter at the finish like Vittozzi's win in Östersund when she was in Simon's role and Franzi Preuß was in hers, but Simon's final lap fightback never materialised.

Braisaz-Bouchet was still the fastest skier, but she had one miss too many to make the podium.
Currently JBB is the fastest skier, at time of writing France have 1st, 5th, 6th and 18th best ski times (although Chauveau and Richard are both faster than Guigonnat who was started here because of rotation and because she's a shooting specialist just like her brother), Germany are definitely improved and they go well in the cold conditions as we saw back in December, but they're still 11th, 13th, 17th and 20th for ski speed. Preuß is actually the slowest of the four, but she also gave up more than her average for the rest of the race on the last lap after missing her second target - how much of that is dependent on Braisaz-Bouchet's pace and how much of that is easing up since a medal was gone and these races don't count for the World Cup overall is hard to tell. She was running very close in pace to Voigt until that final lap so whether she eased up while Voigt still had something to fight for, or Voigt kept something for the last lap and just did better, is hard to say until we get the fuller data post-race.

Looks like she was slightly quicker than Lampic (though could be shooting time as the difference too as Lampic would likely be slower there). I'd love to see a race where both of them shoot clear, or just Lampic missing only 1 or 2. Would be entertaining
Course time has JBB 7,4 seconds ahead of Lampič.

Provisional course times:

1 Justine Braisaz-Bouchet 34:52,3
2 Anamarija Lampič +7,4
3 Lisa Vittozzi +1:04,9
4 Baiba Bendika +1:17,5
5 Lou Jeanmonnot +1:24,4
6 Julia Simon +1:27,9

Tells you just how much time Simon gained in the range as well, that she's 23 seconds slower than Vittozzi on the trails and 29 seconds back with a miss, so she gained 54" in the range, but at the cost of the one miss which of course costs a minute.

Has a world Cup leader ever had as bad a world champs as this? I know she got silver in the mixed relay, but she has been horrendous in the individual events.

I can't think of any but to be honest its not the first time that Tandrevold's standing shooting just falls of a cliff.

Great performances from Vittozzi and the Germans on the range, Simon could still probably medal every single race here like JTB last year.

Vittozzi had some issues with the gun at the first shooting, which cost her sth like 15-20s. But sure, Simon was still on another level in that regard.

Gutted for Tomingas. Having her and Ermits both in the top 15 would have been quite the day for the Estonians. But the shooting rules are there for a reason and while it's nothing as egregious as Florian Graf sticking his face down the barrel of his rifle or Andrea Henkel firing a live round during zeroing, it is only right that skiing violations usually result in time penalties but rifle-related violations are instant DQ.

Sundling attacked from the start in her heat. Ribom said that they have a plan on how to beat Skistad, but no idea if this really was part of it.
Well in that heat it didn't really matter, Skistad can just ignore Sundling and focus on securing 2nd place. It would make sense if there were another Swede in this, such as Svan or Ribom, and they'd go for it also. Then you would really put the pressure on Skistad.

yeah, but Sundling isn't exactly strong at adapting her tactic to what's needed. Maybe they told het to just do the same every heat.

Sundling really needs to save more energy for the final. Pick heat 4 or 5 to avoid meeting Skistad and Svahn before the final and let someone like Diggins set the pace in the semifinal.
Calle in the final, the guys in Canmore better start hiding their squaws...
