Finland could still challenge. They need to put Matintalo and Niskanen on the classic legs, and Parmakoski and likely Joenssu on the skate legs.

Germany is a candidate, if they are recovered from the team wide illness.

I wonder if Switzerland could challenge for medal in the women’s relay. On paper with current form and skis
Kälin*2, Weber and Fähndrich feels like a stronger team than USA and there are questionmarks around the Finnish and German teams.
Good shout.

Germany on paper but only Henning yesterday(not today) has had a good race. I didn't think USA had a chance of a medal today but in the end won an easy silver.

Instinct says Finland but wouldn't gamble money

Feels wide open for the Bronze

Imo it's between them and the USA at this point, unless Hennig, Fink, Hoffmann and Carl pull one out of the rabbit.

If Kälin has the sort of race she had the two distance race, she’ll drop whichever American she comes up against, including Cringe. They’ll put her on one of the classic legs. Weber and Fändrich and likely the younger Kälin. Yeah, a medal is definitely possible. I hope the Germans and Finns have good races. It could really be a good, close race for bronze.

Starting a not fit Gimmler who just had been ill might have costed Germany a medal here, but then again, resting Carl after 3 races might win them one in the relay.
it's not like Carl has had good races so far, to be fair. I doubt it would have made a major difference.

German ski often aren't great in warm, wet conditions indeed, but in her case, being more on the tall & heavier side probably doesn't help either.

Truls Gisselman, Jens Burman, William Poromaa and Edvin Anger for Sweden in that order tomorrow.

Could be minutes behind the medals after two legs but then Poromaa doesn’t need to spend energy ahead of 50k

I think this is a huge overreaction to Diggins weak Skiathlon. If Diggins have skis like today (she also skied very fast today) there is no chance for Kälin to drop her. Kälin has been great this World Champs but her outstanding performances have not been better than an average Diggins 10k classic performance in the last couple of years.

I would put Faendrich-NKälin-Weber-M.Kälin in that order, as the skate part is easier than the classic part. Still think it will be too weak to challenge for the bronze, even half sick Germany should be way too strong. Hoffman-Carl on the last two legs should be a minute faster than Weber and Marina.

I can’t see a way to a medal for US either the way Brennan and Laukli been skiing this season, it’s between Germany and Finland to me.

Krueger was not lined up for the relay (Valnes-Nyenget-Amundsen-Klaebo). He blamed atrial fibrillation for his poor result yesterday, so I guess it makes sense to leave him out.

Truls and Burman were 24th and 18th in the 10 km Classic in Falun.

Neither is extraordinary, but not terrible either.

Truls hasnt raced yet here and is good to go.

Burman has been unlucky this world cup so far... but is for the most part solid at these and is good at just hanging on if he can follow someone.

Except for Norway, it feels pretty wide open for 2nd and 3rd. There is a chance at getting a medal I think.

It will come down to the skis. But without extraordinary Swedish skis I can’t see Gissleman follow Finland, Italy and France and then Burman will be all alone.

Italy with Ticco-Pellegrino-Graz-Dapra tomorrow. Dapra being the last man instead of Pellegrino is a surprise to me. I'd have had Nöckler (decent classic individual start by him) or even Ventura in the 2nd leg and Pellegrino in the final one, but I guess the plan is to bury Sweden early, so that it's just Italy and France for Silver and Bronze...

Now I am seeing most media outlets having Poromaa on the second leg for Sweden. I am not sure if the order is not revealed or if media doesn’t care. Yesterday was the same, media reported Sundling and Dahlqvist but not who would ski the final leg

Patrick Winterton " we haven't had 5 or 6 women competing for victory in any event so far" - Has he been watching?
What he means by this is "we haven't had Jess Diggins competing for victory in any event so far". Winterton only pays attention to the biggest names and his favourites. It's why he likes sprints and mass starts, because he can just talk about the small handful of people he likes talking about.

Expected winners in the team sprints, humiliating result for the Norwegian women.

Due to strong wind, they rescheduled most of tomorrow's program. The relay will now start at 2pm local, half an hour later than planed.

I am very surprised that Ogden has not been selected by the US, he should be really good at Team Sprint, but he also looked horrible today so maybe he‘s sick?
not "is", apparently, but Ogden had all kind of health issues (novo, flu etc) the month before the World Championships, so got replaced by Schumacher (who now gets a day off today).

Bigger favourites? Men today or women Sochi 2014? It might not be a procession.
will depend on how Valnes can cope with three races in three days, I guess. If it's a slowish start, Sweden and France may be able to hang on for the classic part, and the 2nd half is relatively easy then.

Just watched the 10km freestyle russian championship race. Bolshunov is far from his Beijing form. He went full gas from the get go. Totally exploded in the last 2km, but managed to beat the cross country skiing next big thing Korostelev by just 6 seconds. I really really hope to see Korostelev next year against the GOAT in the Olympics.

Combined race and the relay have been delayed due to win. No idea if the weather is supposed to improve, can't remember a Championship have such *** weather before.

Six teams have just brought in a late replacement due to illness. Ahonen/Anttola is the only one of interest for the medal contenders, but I guess the bad weather may be playing a part there as well.
