Marlene Fichtner not firing all her rounds and might make it two World Cup relay DQs in a row for her. Can't be many times that has happened.

Don‘t you just get two minutes or one minute for that? Anyways, she‘s now skiing the worst in the field as well.
I had forgotten this would have been a spare round. You get a DQ for entering the course with a live round in the chamber, but as it's a relay she won't have loaded it and will get the two minutes.

Tandrevold has just managed to not collapse in standing, so it will be even harder for the following athletes to avoid the spots where the universe is collapsing.

The Germans are now skiing on another level (in a bad way), really going for that terrible result
I think in all honesty everybody else is just taking this as an ersatz training session. Stay out there and don't get lapped, but with the penalty there's pretty much nothing to be gained from racing it hard after they'd already lost 2 further minutes on the trails. Tannheimer was skiing with Lampič for two laps. Their deficit isn't exactly soaring upwards in the rest of the race and they're picking through a few of the also rans in terms of their actual position on tracks, they were just utterly irrelevant already.

Good to see Korostelev getting a podium, he already deserved it.

Best performance of Dariya Nepryaeva's career, it bodes well for the future. Also great second place for Linn Svahn, I expect her to be able to challenge for the World Cup overall in the coming seasons.

An actually good Swedish girl taking part in enough races to win the overall World Cup? I don’t believe it before I see it.
To be fair Svahn did that in 2024 (as did Frida), she actually did more racing than Diggins who skipped most relays. I think Svahn really likes to race and the main reason she skips race are due to injuries or illness.

Sundling has the same coach as Kalla so she is more into skipping races. Andersson doesn’t like altitude so she tends to skip those and doesn’t do sprinting.

Simon won today, unusual for a sprint. Some inconsistent ski times today, with very changeable pacing.

Julia Tannheimer was the craziest example of this, doing 40th ski time on the first lap, then missing three because she didn‘t adjust even though the coach on the lap told her that most were missing to the right, then she does an insane 2nd lap, putting 12 seconds into 3rd time on the lap, before shooting clean in the standing and doing a solid, but not great final lap.

Anyway, the 50ks start within 45 minutes of each other, so it will be hard to follow both races closely and we might see some slalom from the men in the final laps. Although that should work well enough because there won‘t be many women in the race probably.

It's really weird how france have by far the strongest women's biathlon team, but Sweden have 3 of top 4 in standings.
