no idea, Vitozzi looked fairly slow yesterday though, Öberg even more so. (Wind) conditions seem to be a bit worse today, so that may play into their hands, but I'd tend to say Olsbu is the favourite

Looking at the times from yesterday (i know that relays affect the ski time but its still a decent guide) Roiseland looked like she had by far the fastest ski time, 2 misses more than Vitozzi (fastest overall split) but only 4 seconds slower.
i was hoping the fact that JTB didn't put that much time into Pfeiffer meant he had come back to the mean a bit, but it looks like Pfeiffer skied his socks off.

Wierer is shooting terrible so far, another 2 misses in the prone. Eckhoff skiing well but with a miss in the prone she is never going clear in the standing.
Vitozzi as well missing 2. Dahlmeier going late must be pissing herself.
Olsbu also skiing well, and more likely to shoot clear by far (edit, now she has missed 2 in the prone, nobody wants to win today).

Dahlmeier laughing her *** off. Told german TV, that she is still sick and actually thought about flying home this morning.

Amazing how a person that's sick and was ready to fly home hours before her start can hit all her targets and I don't know, ski faster in the 2nd half of the race? And this has happened before every or every other major championship. I should probably stop commenting on her now, or else take it to the clinic...

Yes, go comment on the race winner instead...

She had a fantastic race!
She was also claiming to be sick, just like Dahlmeier. Dahlmeier has always raced on a negative split, it's how she races. And Neuner used to do this a lot too in her later years, skipping things like relays as a precaution to be at full strength in the individual races. Oslo in 2011, she started the sprint supposedly sick, and won it by 30 seconds, then was too ill to enter the pursuit, then recovered from her sickness in time to compete in the mass start. The fact she was in the hunt for the small crystal globe in the sprint and mass start and not in the hunt for the pursuit was an obvious reason for this (in fairness to Lena, having been so dominant in the sprint, she was then below par in the mass start and lost the globe to Domracheva, which perhaps suggests that she was legitimately ill at least at some point). Personal take is that Dahlmeier simply didn't feel like the Mixed Relay, with her WCH and Olympic records she probably gets away with something like that even if the team wanted her in as they don't want to jeopardise potential medals later, and her claiming she was going to go home is simply hyperbole.

People racing supposedly "sick" reminds me Myllylä from 2001. He won 10 km classic, but claimed he was too sick to start the freestyle pursuit a couple of hours later to actually win the gold! Truly sick people can't perform like that imho.

My main point is that Dahlmeier seems to always be sick, and then she comes back to win medals. If someone is so sick, would they really be this good? I raced a 5km while battling a cold once, and I ended up getting pneumonia and basically screwed up my entire season, I missed a month of training and when I came back later that season, I was not the same. I understand that our immune system is weakened when we train, and people do get sick, but Dahlemeier's issues seem to be chronic. To me it's very strange.

Myllylä is a great example. I remember they were saying that he had a high temperature and couldn't start the pursuit.

Without knowing background information, is it possible that Dahlmeier wants to pick and choose races, and uses "sick" card to get out of the races she doesn't want to compete in? In short - she isn't confident she can perform at a high level for the whole season, thus she is picky.

So only 45 men are in the 50km race. That is really really disappointing. 15 of them are Norwegian, so really only 30 guys from other countries. Very very poor. Time for Fis to wake up again. This race isn't anything Special anymore it seems. A first step would be two Award way more world Cup Points for this race. It's a bad joke that a sprint in let's say Dusseldorf is worth as much as this one here. Schuld be at least tripple Points.

I wouldn't say possible, I'd say probable. She has skipped Oberhof several years when she's missed events, come back before Christmas and then been out for that to return at Ruhpolding and Antholz, both of which being venues she likes. Because all biathlon events are within similar distance ballparks, there aren't weekends that can be skipped for distance specialists like Dresden, or sprinters simply not entering the distance races like we see in XC, or having a preferred style that you do more racing in (e.g. classic specialists who may be subbed out in favour of a better skate skier in skate events in the XC calendar), there's much less of the "only coming in for set planned events" in biathlon. Certainly some athletes who aren't able to score results year-long will focus on the major championships only, but Dahlmeier is not really one of those. Because of a German tendency to rely on her for results, however, a lot of questions would be asked in home media if she simply no-showed or was not selected. "Are the coaches sabotaging our medal chances?" - sickness gives an out, and I simply believe that while she may be under the weather plenty often, the combination of the fact she's not somebody who lives and breathes biathlon like Bjørndalen, and the expectations foisted on her by the German fanbase and media such that any result outside the flower ceremony is "what's wrong with Laura?" if she's not feeling healthy enough/in form enough that she feels she can compete at her best, she simply won't.
