I think all 3 would have skied a lot faster with new wax. But Nyenget probably wants to make the race as hard as possible, and the other two don't want to let him go alone.

I think the only saving grace is that the Norwegians were limited to four skiers. Korostelev would probably have more of a chance if his skis were cooperative.

Nyenget ONCE AGAIN not choosing new skis, lmao.

...and he does his thing on the Zorzi climb as ever. I do dislike the way they always lay the course out with that being the last climb here, it's too decisive to be like a Northug step finish (which they've tried to replicate in Antholz with the reprofiling for these games), but it's not long enough to tilt things back towards some of the endurance specialists like Chiesa or Pojer which would introduce tension as to whether or not Klæbo could keep the attack pace up for the whole climb, whereas we know full well he can on Zorzi and nobody can even remotely go with the pace he can generate on that uphill. How Johannes is still so fresh after such a program is just wild.

The only way Johannes would not have won this one is if it were an individual start. We don't really know how he would fare, but Nyenget would have been the odds on favorite in that case.
