Great to watch a bit of the off-season events here in Mosjøen, with the joker lap and the city centre vibe it's kind of a cross between rallycross and cycling crit racing on skis, but it's a fun little festival seeing a lot of the international brigade out there.
Patrick and Mike are very much in off-season mode too, celebrating the return to form of Petter Northug and talking about his proposed (not particularly seriously) transfer to Mexico to compete at the "Torino Olympics"... fun to see some of the athletes from the NoCo out there for show as well.
Hedegart being out there is getting kind of funny, he's flip-flopped over whether to persist with XC or return to biathlon about four times already this offseason. It seems at present biathlon is winning despite his shooting being unsurprisingly far worse now that he's spent most of the last couple of seasons not practicing it, and his not making the A-team for the offseason training. But after he declared for XC he ended up having some conversations with the Norwegian biathlon federation and changed his mind within a couple of days.
It kind of reminds me of Miriam Gössner spending 2009-10 on the XC World Cup and then returning to biathlon after winning a medal at the Olympics in cross-country having not shot in competition all season at the end of the year, but Hedegart is far further down the road of specialisation in XC; she only had one year out of full-time biathlon and her medal was a relay one, she wasn't winning XC World Cup races or individual Olympic medals like Hedegart (I know she later finished half a second off a medal in the Nordic Worlds in Val di Fiemme, and that Tchekaleva who took that bronze was later DQed for being involved in the Sochi doping making that result highly questionable, but she only raced Val di Fiemme as a wildcard moonlighting in the XC team, since that was during her best World Cup season, there were no serious considerations of her becoming a full-time XC athlete at that point)
