If he continues like this he is ruining his Lidl-Trek road career at a very fast pace. He has a very good group of riders around him that will continue developing and that will overtake him in the hierarchy if he doesnt continue his development.

His road season basically runs from April-August every year so if he misses this Ardennes block half of his season is basically ruined.

I think he really needs to make a decision to do a shorter CX season if he wants to get the maximum out of his road career from now on. Build up a season with a similar program to Del Grosso from now on by startling CX mid December until the WC and doing a road season from Early March until Late September.

Tbh, he just seems a litle bit overrated. He is definitely far from Del Toro, Pidcock, Remco, Healy, Skeljmose, probably Seixas too. All these riders are from his generation and have far better results.

I think he definitely has the talent to compete with Guys like Healy and Skjelmose in the Hilly races. He has a superb explosiveness and the weapons to win races even though he still has very limited road focus.

Does he really have the talent? Why is he more talented than Healy for example?

Not saying he is more talented, but for me he is up there in that category.

I have seen him punch to victories in Hungary, Suisse, Poland, Indurain and his punch was just very very impressive. His explosiveness is world-class. He has also shown in Liege that he is close to having the durability to have an impact in those races.

And he has done this while being 22 years or younger while not having a true focus on the road. He continues to juggle two disciplines, dedicating himself more towaeds CX than other guys like Del Grosso or even Verstrynge.

So yeah I think he will benefit if he focus more on the road, because with the current balance he is kinda nowhere. He is only impressive in a niche sport like CX as long as Mathieu is not there. And his road season is so short and without focus that he doesnt really give himself to perform there either.

I disagree tbh. Those I mentioned previously have way better results and CX riders are not that good IMO. I am pretty sure riders like Pogacar, Del Toro with a little bit of training, would beat Nys in a CX race.
He has focused his road racing career a lot around Ardennes and he has been very underwhelming.

Lol, he was a debutant in The Ardennes last year and finished top-10 in both Wallone and Liege. Yes, he was hyped up too much before Fleche Wallone. But if you disregard the hype he did quite will for a debutant.

Given how little Nys has actually focused on the road and also given his age it is fairly normal that Skjelmose and Healy have performer better until now.

He should do what he enjoys as long as someone will pay him to do that.

He's a rider that would thrive in the Ardennes as they were raced from the mid 2000 to the start of the Covid era.

Now he should be a rider that should understand he's a stage hunter and his only chance at a big fish is Milano Sanremo

He only rode the Ardennes races for the first time last year.
