O Gran Camino race director Ezequiel Mosquera not happy with the UCI points system, as it's kept guys away from the race -

On the other side of the spectrum:

?
Nothing in that article relates to the post you quoted.

It's not the cobbled classics riders that he misses from O Gran Camiño.
Ok. Which one races is Ezequiel Mosquera alluding to that is interfering with the O Gran camino?

He is not complaining about the calendar, they chose this spot that overlaps with Omloop. His complaint is about the points system and how it favours small one-day races over stage races:

"So, as we are now, even though this is a well-organized, well-groomed and well-designed 5-day race, we can’t do more than we already do, at least with our means. Why? Because in five days we put 710 points up for grabs against the 3000 we could give if we managed 5 classics," he outlines the clear limitations of the current points distribution.

I understand. I can read that. But You did not respond my question. I saw that Rob5091 did. No problem.
Thanks.

Anyhoo ... 3 guys seem destined to be caught in the near future by the peloton today. The last 2 km are uphill so can Cort hold onto the leader's jersey?

The three riders up in front should survive until the bonus sprint and take all bonus seconds.

He is not alluding to any interference of other races. There will always be other races too, his complaint is solely about the UCI points system putting a thumb on the scale.
he better should look elsewhere, though. The teams and riders he'd like to attract are maily not in Ardeche but have gone to Andalucia & Algarve instead. Problem are not the points but that he is organizing a .1 race with bad weather and small roads.

In the quote posted in a comment here the points were the only problem, he was talking about. Because he is organizing a .1 race. I think he should play the game like other race organizers are doing, and just do 2 one day races and a three day O Gran Camiño.

Yeah, the pre-season is quite busy in Spain, but I don't think a May spot would result in a better field for a new race. Maybe the old Castilla y Leon spot in April?

With a more fair points system (and UCI not nerfing the status of Spanish stage races), I think this spot is good enough for the race to grow. But I think 5 stages is a mistake, 4 days of racing should fit better with the March WT stage races.

The UAE tour usually clashes with opening weekend and ardeche/drome, and has never struggled for startlist quality (I know mosqera is not complaining about a clash)

Kron should intimidate him and get him to slow down; half-wheel him and stare him down like you're O'Connor.
