Bicycling.com reckon he's bound for a 1 year ban.

This just shows the blogger’s ignorance. As has been discussed here at length, by a strict interpretation of the rules, there is no way Bert can get one year. It’s either two years or nothing.

I’m not going to say it’s flat-out impossible for him to get one year—it would be a compromise that would allow the sport to say that even the stars don’t get off, yet Bert could be riding again. I can see how everyone could feel somewhat vindicated by it. I can even see the parties meeting behind the scenes and hammering out a deal like this.

But unless someone comes up with a very creative new interpretation of the rules, a one year ban would mean that CAS accepted that Spanish meat was contaminated, yet also decided that Bert had some fault for eating it. As Python, e.g., has discussed here, Bert’s lawyers have been very successful, at the least, in arguing that the statistics for contaminated meat show that Bert cannot possibly be at any fault if the steak he ate did indeed contain CB. If we’re talking of odds of one in ten thousands that the meat was contaminated, Bert is totally blameless. So a one year ban would make no sense, and anyone predicting it should at least try to justify how it could happen.

fed-up fans will turn away from questionable winners and look more closely at that which genuinely attracts them to the sport: the experience of it. They’ll want to hear more impossible but true stories from the Johnny Hoogerlands and Jens Voigts of the road, the Thomas Voecklers and the Johan van Summerens of the podium.

See my first sentence in this post.

But didn't the good doctor quote the rule in this post:

296 - No Significant Fault or Negligence.
If a License-Holder establishes in an individual case that he bears No Significant Fault or Negligence, then the period of Ineligibility may be reduced, but the reduced period of Ineligibility may not be less than one-half of the period of Ineligibility otherwise applicable.

doolols,

Contador is arguing no fault or negligence, which is the all-or-nothing scenario. No significant fault or negligence applies to cases where the athlete is claiming a contaminated supplement caused them to go positive, or some other source of contamination they should have known about and taken steps to avoid (e.g. beef in Mexico or liver in London). Read this post again.

So then the 17footballers in Mexico, should have known, about the possibility of contaminated meat?

It depends on whether WADA warned athletes about the situation or not IMO. Wada did issue warnings after that event (see e.g. here), but I dunno the extent to which the footballers were alerted beforehand.

If people who go positives after knowingly eating contaminated food aren't sanctioned, whats to stop them going to a training camp in mexico to mask their off season weight loss program? Actually, maybe there is a market for hypo-allergenic slimmers beef :D

As has been pointed out - a one year sanction is extremely unlikely.
For that to happen CAS would be saying they believed ACs positive was the result of food contamination but that he was at fault for eating meat that was bought in the EU, which has pretty stringent controls.

They did - and do you know what they were not sanctioned?
Because they had also kept samples of the meat they consumed:
FIFA ordered meat samples to be collected from team hotels and 30% of these showed the presence of clenbuterol.

And to make sure there was not a repeat for the other Mexican players in a later tournament:
Mexico's victorious Under-17 team did not have a single adverse finding; after the positive tests for the senior players they were only allowed to eat fish and vegetables.

So if I obtain a piece of clen-contaminated beef and keep it in storage... Do I have a case when I happed to test positive? I can always save up recent beef wrappers, through out the last one when I obtain a new one. When I test positive, all at once I have a piece of contaminated meat in recent wrapper. With such a high risk of contamination, it seems worthwhile to take such measures. If it'll be accepted as proof.

There is not a "high risk of contamination".
If you somehow manage to "obtain a piece of clen-contaminated beef" the smart thing to do is not to eat it in the first place.

I would only obtain it for security sake. Or as an excuse for residual clen after a intension use.
All hypothetical. I would like to know if producing a piece of contaminated meat will still help going forward. It takes some logisitics, but we're talking about sports that juggle blood bags.

I definitely think that is a satirical article. Cadel win a second TDF? "Emphasis in cycling will be less on the superstar riders"??? I had a muted laugh reading the article.

And then..? Can you see me explaining what's going on? Doctor will be like 'Geez, you care too much, girl.' and he'll send me home. Duh. :p

I just want to know the outcome. Then I can either sulk in a corner for a week and then move on with my life, or I can get all excited for this season. That may sound dramatic, but that's how it is.

Is there any change a decision might leak? Or is CAS way more organized than the UCI and RFEC?

It hasn't leaked yet, so I would guess that yes, they are more organized.
