I laughed as well.....

I would hasten to add that possibly every grand tour in the last 15 years has been won in the hotel room (or team bus "broken down" on a mountain pass)! :p

not sure if AC himself was aware of the irony..

Viva Contador!!! I believe the people who are making disparaging remarks about him are jealous and hate excellence.

Jealous of the Spanish for their most beautiful podium girls and the fact that the siesta is a National pastime that would never go over in the states or many other hard-working countries in Western Europe.

In a country where the party doesn't start until well past midnight (even on week days) there is bound to be jealousy from people who will never know what it's like to drink awesome wine, eat awesome unregistered pork and beef all while a pretty señorita is at your side waiting to dance the night away with you.

And finally, you are all just jealous that 0.0000000005% of clenbutarol can give one rider such a huge advantage over his rivals, while your heroes must dope to the gills and can't even stay on his wheel.

Good chance he was aware. I saw an interview when he dead panned that his biggest GT advantage was his ability to recover. He smirked slightly after delivering that line. "Race could be won in the hotel" is funny.

Off topic, I always enjoy Phil talking about the "pointy end of the peloton". I'm sure that's accidental comedy though.

Imagine Contador is not sanctioned by TAS?

Imagine he wins the Giro by 10 minutes?

Imagine he goes to the TdF and actually wins it?

Imagine he does the Vuelta a España and wins it too?

Imagine he doesn't test positive... ever?

Some of you are going to be mighty ****ed off.

I mean, I don't see TAS rationalizing a sanction on Contador because of 50 picograms of clenbuterol. Can you even imagine such a thing? Of yeah, we know 50 picograms is not doping and that it is virtually imposible to ingest such a low amount. We also know the plasticizers test isn't developed enough and that the creator of the test has spoken publicly against it's use in sports. But... you know what? Even though we do not have any proof aside from a test... you broker the UCI's rules. Furthermore, we don't care! We're TAS goddammit!

Contador on the Zoncolan was teased by a fan running alongside with a steak dangling from a fishing rod. For a couple of pedalstrokes the steak was tantalisingly just in front of his nose. He must have been able to smell the 0.000000000000000005%

A valid form of expressing doubts and protesting against doping?

Contador Remove from TDF

OK......its time Prudhomme and the lads take a stand. Contador should not be allowed to ride the TDF. There is a very good chance that he will be found guilty and last years title, and potentially this years, will be stripped from him.

Recognizing that he may have indeed digested tainted meat (lets give him the benefit of the doubt) the fact remains that a banned substance was in his body. Much like athletes that digest tainted supplements. Responsibility is with the athlete to ensure they are ingesting "clean" food and using "clean" creams and products.

So in the interest of sport, Contador should not be allowed to start. If it proves he is innocent, too bad/so sad for him. However, these are the rules. The drug was found in his system....accidently or not......those are the rules.

So as to avoid further public embarrassment Contador must not be allowed to start the TDF. The sport and the event are bigger then him......its time we all recognize this....as well as the UCI and TDF.

Hell....his first victory was handed to him because Rasmussen screwed up and broke a rule........so he was handed a freebee in a way.

Vive le TOUR

He's riding, people don't like it, but doesn't change it. Now that he is allowed to compete lets hope the media don't mention his cases whenever they see or need to mention him.

Hands Are Tied

I have read that post. My point is that they have had their hands tied and really have to stop living in "lawyer" world and take a stand.

They do not want him there that is plain and simple. Most of the peloton also does not want him there. However everyone has nice polite answers.

Chris Horner said it best, as did a few others. Ban AC from the race.

Most fans do not want the TDF damaged any more. Looks very likely that AC will lose last years win. Pretty easy to see that WADA and UCI are against this. They would not be appealing if they did not think they would win the case.

are we talking about 39 year old chris horner getting the best results of his life at an age 99% of cyclists are already retired?

chris horner is the imagine of clean cycling. . . .

p.s. contador was found innocent, like it or not. he has all the right in the world to ride. the uci appealed but just because the uci appealed it doesn't make him guilty. what if just because the uci appealed he wasn't able to ride all year and then was found innocent again?

Christian Prudhomme and his cronies including the UCI would have cried if Alberto had not been racing, they would have lost a fortune. It's all about the money.

Chris Horner......you are having a laugh, him and bottle the two old men beating the field in California, great advert for clean cycling!

LOL. Dertie's fanboys are out in force early on and missing the point as ever.

The point that is made is that the ASO do have the ability to refuse to allow people to ride. They like other race organisers can choose to not invite riders and teams - they've done this before in 2008. Likewise, the fact that other riders have not been invited because of their pasts.

They should have taken a stand but they haven't.

As Siruscat says - its all about money - without the 'scandal' element this years TDF would be very very boring for most of the mainstream fans and media. There is very little anglophone interest. So the evil doping Spanish rider vs the nice 'clean' Trek rider makes for a better story.

Why? You want to censor people? Don't mention his doping past? Whitewash history so that we only discuss positive things? This isn't a ****ing cult.

Chris Horner didn't say "Don't let him ride". He, like most everybody else in pro cycling, said "Gee, it sucks that this is taking so long. Make a decision already, one way or the other."

Curse you for starting this thread and getting my hopes high!

Don't worry. AFLD will do some drugtesting, they'll find a substance or two as soon as they test Clenpistolero.

After all, what is a Tour, without dopingscandals?
