The government hasn't agreed to this deal yet, have they? It just seems like a very small amount of money.

It's hard to imagine how the US could have any problem with it. Landis proposes to settle with the "CSE Defendants" with a deal that gives the US $500K and Landis' lawyer $100K.

Since the US has not intervened against the "CSE Defendants," from the US perspective this is like found money. It's also money that keeps Landis' lawyers funded (going after Armstrong, Bruyneel, and Tailwind and doing work the US Attorneys don't need to do).

Seems like a good deal.

Unless Bruyneel still has an American bank a/c not sure how the US are going to get a cent from Johan.

Capital Sports was just a bit player, receiving just a small fraction of the overall cash as a fee. The big money flowed to Lance.

Mathematically:

1/(small fraction)*$500k = very large number

Dave.

If you multiply a large number by a small fraction, don't you normally end up with a smaller number than you started with?

He who settles first, settles least...and then you can use their testimony against the guy who wasn't smart enough to settle before you did. The amount they settled for is in no way an indication of the amount Lance will have to pay. Things just got a lot more difficult for Lance.

The government is sitting with a full boat, and Armstrong is drawing dead. Notice that there is nothing suggesting that Stapleton and Knaggs settled with a stipulation that they admitted to no wrongdoing...that isn't there for a reason.

Thanks for weighing in Chewie :D
this sounds great.
I knew Lance was not in the most favorable position after I read the settlement offers..there is NO way that Weisel would let himself come out as an underdog to Wonderboy.

There are treaties that address such issues, and seeing that this is a case in which the US is a party, I'm guessing Bruyneel will have a hard time avoiding paying...but he could always move to North Korea if he feels really adamant about not paying.

I'd love to be there when he pays up just to see that dumb look slapped off his face. The King of Trolls will go down.

Lance might need to consider playing more Muni courses pretty soon...

I'm hopeful that is true and Knaggs and Stapleton turn on Wiesel. We know these guys are no better than thieves, so, turning on Wonderboy and Wiesel is likely.

I'm also hopeful the bit about no wrongdoing is also true.

But, the Friday story is, historically, not a great precedent. I mean that way beyond some doped bike rider. There's a long tradition of breaking stories that suck for average folks on Friday night.

If you multiply a large number by the reciprocal (i.e. the 1 over part) of really small fraction then you end up with something approaching infinity.

1/(small fraction)*$500k = very large number

Lance doesn't have infinity to play with.

Dave.

I think it might be more reflective of the general public's not caring anything about the suit. Most of them have moved on.

When it gets to collection time, he's going to be wailing about being broke to the Feds.
"I''ve got kids to raise! A home to take care of!!
No money is coming in!!! Do you have any idea how expensive it is to live in a 10 bedroom estate in Aspen? Subway sandwiches are $20!!!
I flew my family to Hawaii COMMERCIAL for vacation!!!!
I'm flying commercial to play golf somewhere with some posh w@nkers!!!
I tell you we're barely getting by!!!
And now you want to starve my children!!!"

Maybe he can start a charity, or something.

Ohh no. No. No. No. You don't think like a champion. No wonder you are a bone idle w@nker. It's personal Dave. The government is stealing food from the mouths of his children.

He's going to fight it. Why? He's a champion of course. It seems like we have some time yet until the story gets there. It is probably many months away yet.

Now I'm wondering how much of a story Wiesel's got that lays the blame on Wonderboy. Thom being an innocent bystander in the whole affair. He was too busy running the federation and a bucket shop. The guy is cunning.

Those settlement numbers are a complete f-you from LA's team. I hope the government tells him to shove it and take him for everything they can.

You may be misinterpreting.

There are 10 named Defendants in the Complaint (Lance, Johan, Weisel, Tailwind Sports, etc.). This settlement proposal appears to be from the bit players.

Is Armstrong angling for some Golf Seniors Tour invites???

I somehow dont think Golf would want his taintedness....

Lance Armstrong: cheating at golf would leave me heartbroken forever

I guess Lance is saying that the massive cheating & bullying he did in cycling wasn't his fault after all. He was just in the wrong sport. All he needs is a code of honor to guide him.

Ahh, I see what you mean now - so one over a tenth multiplied by x is 10x - I thought there was something I was missing first time round! Thanks for clarifying.

How do you do massive cheating?
