Agreed.

All this "remorse". It's everywhere! Our church's are full of people guilt. What's going on? Real men stand up at the time. Not when the ship is sinking.

Ditto.

However, it is nice for someone to take the high road every once in a while.

Dave.

Open letter an apology my backside, more like grandstanding. Perhaps a phone call to arrange a meet and telling him to his face might just about suffice for what was done to him without telling the world.

Given the public nature of Lance's demeaning of Greg, there needs to be open honesty and apologies, no?

You have to start somewhere.

Dave.

I'm feeling similarly to the others expressing doubt.

I wonder how much public apology stuff you'd be getting if Greg wasn't in the TdF etc limelight...

I know Mark personally and he is a stand up guy. Read the passages in Macur's book regarding Mark and Wonder boy... There is no love lost between them and I do not doubt the sincerity of his open letter. Mark is a man of principle... More people should admit their complicity in the lie.

I'm left wondering who his intended audience is. It's clearly not Greg.... I mean Greg knows his own story.

A logical follow up to this apology would be to name Lemond chairman of Livestrong.

That would be a real kick in the ball for Wonderboy.

(hypothetical of course as I am sure Greg has better things to do with his life)

I would much rather Greg become chairman of the NSA. Destroy blood doping in a matter of months lol

Mark McKinnon, Livestrong board member and former Armstrong adviser, apologizes to Greg LeMond.

After years of being overshadowed by Armstrong, cyclist Greg LeMond is the only American to have fairly won the Tour de France.

I read that as "Armstrong was a 7x champion, it turns out you really were just okay."

If something better comes of this for McKinnon and Lemond, then fine. If it's some strange proxified PR strategy, then nothing has changed.

The ending is a little dramatic, but right.

Detail the fluid boundary between livestrong.com and livestrong.org. For example, how was money divided for licensing the name to the exercise equipment? My guess is the public will not be too happy to hear about how a disease was used to generate a profit.

That's all I need.

That is the single most awesome idea on this thread ever.

As for the apology, if Emma can accept Lance's, Greg accepting this one is a piece of cake. Photographers just happened to be there when Lance made his "I'm sorry, seriously guys, I really am sorry" Tour, so I don't have any real issue with this apology. Maybe it's genuine, maybe not? Maybe the guy is just a starfu*ker? Who knows? What I do know is that Greg deserved the apology, sincerity notwithstanding.

Perhaps Mark's piece was a preemptive strike, getting ahead of bad news.

He sounds like Jeff Skilling. He's spent everyone's money, cashed in his demand shares and is on his way to Bermuda.

What a leech.

Yeah, I just read through that drivel. WTF? He's telling Greg what Greg's life was like?

And he only just learned LeMond's story because of the 30 For 30 documentary?

If I were cynical, I'd begin to wonder if McKinnon's real purpose was to promote the film. Am I really expected to accept the claim that everything McKinnon knew of LeMond had been filtered though Lance? That this guy was incapable of even the smallest amount of independent thought regarding LeMond until just now?

Give me a break.

"Political advisor." I can see his clients are putting themselves into the hands of someone truly informed. :roll eyes:

[Edit]
Ah, OK. I now see that common sense has already prevailed over on this other thread:

I don't think he's a "stand up guy" at all....he aligned himself with a known and proven cheater and doper, and assisted in what it took to keep LeMond down. Some contrived, phoney "apology" now, is a bit too late IMO.

Hate to lambast your friend, but that's how i feel about it. I spoke to one of my old riding buddies today about this, and he brought it up(the "apology" thing), he laughed about it, and said(verbatim): "Is this guy for real? I mean, if he really were apologetic, he'd have certainly done a better job of contacting him to make things right". I agreed with him. He(Mark) contributed to Wonderboys never ending take down of Greg, Betsy, and others.

Once you align yourself with a guy like Wonderboy, no matter how many showers you take, or how much soap you use...it's EXTREMELY difficult to wash all the stink off your body once you've had anything to do with him. Trek and others have finally come out of their comas and realized that.

Sorry man, "Mark" has proven he's a bad judge of character and people. I don't think Greg would believe a word of it anyways, if they met face to face or not.

This is all just MY opinion of course.
