I would tend to agree. Armstrong did his part of the job that helped his team win the TTT, but he cannot claim this as his anymore than all his teammates.

Otherwise, his overall performance was not stellar but still pretty impressive.

He benefited greatly that the strongest rider was on his team and thus he did not have to race against him. But that's just speculation on my part. I hope that Contador lands with either Caisse, Garmin or Cervelo (I could see Sastre retiring or recognizing that he doesn't have it anymore). I want him to have some horses around him to be able to break up the inevitable Radio Shack train that Lance is going to try and marshal him around next year's course.

....It still counts as a win for each of the team members,,,and Lance too...

SO IT A STAGE WIN,,,,

You can count it as you wish, but in the official stats a TTT win is NOT "a win for each of the team members"

If Lance ever could have gotten yellow, the drama would have been wild. And he would have had no qualms making them all go out each day in defense of the yellow jersey for as long as it took.

Bring on 2010.

In the thread about Stage 21, I said something about that and why I would disagree with you.

Astana won that stage, not Armstrong.

Should he? Lance is showing really poor sportsmanship, he is unable to accept that right now AC is the best rider.

"""Lance is showing really poor sportsmanship,"""

DUDE your Dreaming...

Lance is a Winner... and a real Winner will do what ever it takes...So what you and the other "Haters" think is poor sportsmanship,,,,is nothing more than a the Man's will to win,,,

Missing the dinner that celebrates Contador's victory, and thus the team's victory, is poor sportsmanship no matter how you look at it. The man has all the time in the world to meet with the Radio Shack guys. There were members of that team who worked their butts off to get Armstrong on the podium, and he should have joined his team and raised a glass to their efforts and to Contador's victory.

Lance is a marvelous athlete, an incomparable cyclist, but a shallow man.

The MAN needs to either grow-up or shut-up. It's probably a good thing that introspection is not LA's strong suit, otherwise he'll wake up one morning in a couple weeks feeling really stupid. HE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE TEAM PARTY. To do anything else is just a childish temper tantrum. But he still rode strong. I love you lance.:D

Yeah well, it's not like he and Contador will confront their differences and be BFF after that anyway.
I think we all know by now on which side of the fence we sit regarding Lance Armstrong. Not sure we need a hundreth final nail in the coffin.

Hope it will make for an interesting TdF2010.

5th guy sets the winning time. So maybe he gets most credit?

No... more accurate is that if he wasn't so slow he would have had yellow the next day!

What's so incredibly funny to me in reading this thread is just how far removed from the mainstream the haters are.

It was a freaking LOVEFEST over here today. The l'Equipe headline read "Chapeau, Texan", and went on to describe just how exceptional his performance was. (This is the same l'Equipe, who, with Phillipe Brunel, enjoy taking a pi$$ at Armstrong every chance they get). The stories inside l'Equipe go on to talk about how much more enjoyable it was having him at the Tour this year, and what a change it has been from 2005. Prudhomme went so far as to say that he saw only one anti-Armstrong sign on the roadside for the duration of the Tour.

Additionally, France 2 was extremely supportive pf Lance and went so far as to still refer to him as the "Patron" of the Tour.

Having seen a few stages roadside this year (Arcalis, Col d'Agnes, Petit St. Bernard, to name some), I can assure you that my personal experience was 100% in alignment with the above. There was genuine excitement from the Euro and Aussie crowd about his return, and the vast majority were supportive (the rest being generally indifferent).

Aside from that, the only other quite consistent line of thinking was about what a douchebag Lemond (the hater's hero) is being, from Prudhomme, to Hinault, to Fignon, to the F2 commentators, etc.

So, the couple dozen or so of you douchebags who consistently need to find a reason to take a swipe at the man, keep it up. Just be aware that you are an incredibly small minority, and are pretty much confined to making a mess of these boards. I could frankly care less - as most of you know, I support the guy, but he is by no means my favorite - not even top 5. (And, in fact, the dinner things kinda peeves me too - as I've said before, he has his flaws).

It just became so clear to me that the reality that exists out in the real world and that which exists here in the dungeon are dramatically different.

To those who are generally positive supporters of cycling, and perhaps even dreaded "fanboys", be aware that you are actually very much in the majority - but I think you probably knew that.

sportmanship???

I dont see what many here complaining about Lance not attending the party.
In the tour, Contador was not the sportman that he should have been until the ventoux. He attacked in Andora, dropped Kloeden, against the manager's instructions. Let's look at it fairly - if Lance did not make that 40 seconds break (and another 4 seconds in the sprint), he would not be on the podium today. That's something you can't teach anywhere.

The French love the bridesmaid, always have, always will. If LA won, it would have been the same old BS about him, so that they have now found a new love for him, not the least bit surprising and quite expected.

Did anyone see during the champagne toast and drink that everyone from Astana took a sip except for old crusty who held it for the toast then immediately dumped it without drinking any?

Just another black X for me, he just seems like an absolutely spoiled cry baby.

All those years I was all over his jockstrap.

Agreed (and I've seen it a million times), with Pou-Pou being the tops. HOWEVER, there is genuine reflection going on here that goes beyond the bridesmaid phenomenon.
